I've heard rumors that there was bad blood between Bryant and the Cubs front office.
Theo is saying hes open to trading anyone. To me, it sounds like he's just fishing.

I've seen a few stories over the past several months that mentioned that the Cubs aren't so sure they can sign Bryant to a long term contract. He seems intent on hitting the free agent market. It makes sense to try to get something in return if you believe he is going to bolt at free agency.

Mets should have traded Matt Harvey for him in 2015 when they had the chance.

he'd probably look pretty sweet in a Phils uni at 3rd on the hot corner with Rhys supposedly being back to 1st this year (guess Santana turn's into a $60 mil dollar swiss army knife off the bench)
what a coup - Bryant and Harper during the Winter Meetings.
could flip you over Franco to hold you over at 3rd as well as JP Crawford - there's going to be a crowded outfield with the signing of Harper - so we'll throw you Obdubel or Nick Williams as well as a couple of mid level pitching prospects.

Not much to see here. Saying a guy is available for the right price isnβt the same as saying heβs on the block or the team is actively looking to deal him. The Cubs are still very much within their winning window, dealing Bryant when he has three years left of arb eligibility makes zero sense unless the Cubs start to retreat into .500 territory and want to revamp their roster.

Nonetheless, thanks! Bryant battled shoulder issues all year long and in addition to being limited to 102 games, he just wasn't the same player this year. That happens. He should be fine after properly resting and recovering this offseason. As for the Cubs "seeing something," we could sit here until we're blue in the face, spitting out wild guesses as to what the Cubs may or may have not seen and they'd be nothing more than that - guesses. What they have definitively seen, however, is a guy who won the ROY, who won the MVP, a guy who is on the cusp of just now entering his prime years (he'll be 27 on Opening Day next year), a guy who plays a premium position and plays it well, and a guy who has 3 years left of arbitration eligibility. When you're a contending team, you don't trade that unless you get 2 All-Stars back, or a similar type of MVP-caliber player with at least another year or two of team control before hitting FA, and even then, you don't really set out to do that. If the Cubs were staring down the barrel of a sub-.500 year, it would be a different story....but they aren't. This "story" is just a circle jerk that originated within the vortex of circle jerks - ESPN. Yeah, if the Angels want to trade Mike Trout, I'm sure the Cubs would listen. If the Mets wanted to trade Jacob deGrom, the Cubs would listen. Beyond that, Bryant isn't "on the block."
