One of my earliest memories is, when I was about 3, thinking about toilet paper and deciding to experiment with other types of paper to compare their flushability. I began stuffing notebook paper into the bowl and got as far as tearing pages out of paperback books by the time my mother raced into the bathroom and stopped me.

Nothing. When I was 4 or 5 I let a tiny bit of chewing gum down the bathroom sink drain. Later that morning the town was doing maintenance work outside on the storm sewers & I was determined I had just wrecked the world.

Dead mice that my cats have killed but not eaten... these cats today! You're supposed to eat those little presents. I know, I'm an ungrateful mama, but I told them I'm vegetarian! Now, a few of my cats were outdoor ferals in the past, and one big old orange tabby, Milo, made short work of a mouse - crunch, crunch, gulp. My current outdoor girl - she refuses to come in the nice warm house because of those lazy house cats - she's eaten part of a vole but brought the left-overs back for me. She gets crunchies and canned food, but still likes the occasional walk-on-the-wild-side snack. She is a force of nature!

Crayfish. It was the last day of school and I was helping out a colleague who had already gone home (!) and she had forgotten about them. I nearly forgot they were there, too.
They were ordered (?) by our science specialist and given to random classrooms as observable class pets. Principal was so upset over 1) her leaving and me closing out her room which principal thanked me for, 2) her forgetting the crayfish and 3) how the science specialist didn't remind anyone who was given the responsibility of a class pet, to not forget about them that she refused the animals as pets from then on.
