Some religions believe in a heaven-like after life. Some religions believe in reincarnation. What do atheists believe will happen to you when you die?

Some religions believe in a heaven-like after life. Some religions believe in reincarnation. What do atheists believe will happen to you when you die? The question is somewhat fallacious because it suggests that all atheists believe the same thing. That said, I believe that most of them think that your experience after death is the same as before your were born (i.e. nil). There are many threads in this board where this belief is expressed.

That question presents a bit of an issue since atheism isn't a belief and doesn't actually say anything about an afterlife. Now I would imagine most atheists don't believe in an afterlife and thus the consciousness simply ceases to exist. Somewhere there might be some atheists that believe the conciousness is a seperate "energy" entity and leaves the body after death through "naturalistic" means (I don't think that really makes much sense though)

Some religions believe in a heaven-like after life. Some religions believe in reincarnation. What do atheists believe will happen to you when you die? Atheism = lack of belief in God.
Atheism still doesn't stop people from believing in other supernatural concepts (concepts other than god). It only means one doesn't believe in god.
So an atheist can believe in reincarnation or belief that one goes to some other plane of existence after death. Many western Buddhists claim to be atheists and while some of them may treat it as philosophy, many of them do believe in reincarnation. The ex-Religion board member "Alexej'" was certainly an atheist who did believe in rebirth. He even differentiated between reincarnation and rebirth and claimed to believe in later but not in the former.
An atheist can also believe that the world is a projection or simulation of a computer system. There are endless possible potential belief systems for atheists.
Though in my personal opinion a considerable number of atheists believe that once we die then we are simply dead as in dead forever and there is no life in any other place. I tend towards this belief. (But I am not an atheist but simply non-religious/apatheist).

Some religions believe in a heaven-like after life. Some religions believe in reincarnation. What do atheists believe will happen to you when you die? As others already pointed out: Not all atheists believe the same things; and I don't speak for all atheists. As for me, I believe that when I die, my body will cease to function as an organism. Afterwards, the body will be disposed of.

Some religions believe in a heaven-like after life. Some religions believe in reincarnation. What do atheists believe will happen to you when you die? Different atheists probably believe different things. I don't see anything that dictates what I should believe about what happens after death based on my belief about a god. There could be a god and no afterlife. There could be no god and an afterlife.

For those who are saying atheists don't all believe in the same thing, I know that. I'm asking this question simply to get more understanding on what different beliefs atheists have on what happens after death. The more answers I get, the better.

I believe our consciousness lasts longer than people might've thought before. Hours...maybe even days, who knows? I don't THINK the human consciousness lasts for eternity, however I don't know what, exactly, consciousness is so can't be sure of anything. I think the human body dies and decomposes. IF the human consciousness is inextricably linked to and dependent on the physical body, then eventually, a human consciousness will also fade and be gone...like the light from a distant star will eventually be gone if the star stops producing light. But if the consciousness is of some other composition and not totally dependent on the physical brain/body, then it might somehow be freed from the body and last indefinitely.

I guess we will have to die to find out. No point in believing in anything, because belief is only born of mind that is attached to the physical experience. Once the body is dead, all that was held dear to, would dissipate. Ultimately, we ALL know nothing.

Some religions believe in a heaven-like after life. Some religions believe in reincarnation. What do atheists believe will happen to you when you die? It depends on the atheist. This atheist believes that when you die, the "you" part of you ceases to exist. It doesn't go anywhere, doesn't experience anything, you just fade out and then stop existing. And then you will never exist again, just as you never existed before you were born (or conceived, if you prefer). Your body continues to exist, and will gradually decay and be broken down and return to nature, one way or another. I'm happy to believe that something else happens... if somebody can provide me with compelling evidence that can't be explained in any other way. So far that hasn't happened.
