Kevin Costner - Robin Hood Tommy Lee Jones - Blown Away Donald Sutherland - Virus Costner didn't even attempt an accent, which I suppose is its own sin. But yeah, Jones in Blown Away is an all timer. Arguably the worst Irish accent in history. I'll call out everyone except Damon and Wahlberg in The Departed.Call out Martin Sheen especially in The Departed for his "Bah-stin" accent. "Micro-praw-cessis." "They called you the Tumah." |

Costner didn't even attempt an accent, which I suppose is its own sin. But yeah, Jones in Blown Away is an all timer. Arguably the worst Irish accent in history. He did that Kennedys mini-series ages ago and he thinks that's a Boston accent. The Kennedy accent is a thing unto itself. |

2 GREAT actors who blew it - Robert Duvall - The Seven Per Cent Solution Gene Hackman - A Bridge Too Far There was one movie Duvall did, it might have been a modern one, where he did a bad Russian accent if I'm not mistaken. Not sure of the title. |

Definitely Dennis Quaid trying to do a Cajun accent in The Big Easy and failing horribly. I'm born and raised in Southern Louisiana and know that accent like the back of my hand.....and his wasn't in the same universe! I think he tried for a UK accent in DRAGONHEART as well but then gave up.
John Lithgow's British accent also was all over the place in CLIFFHANGER.
But I have to defend Angelina Jolie's accent in ALEXANDER. It is weird but she was trying to do an ancient Greek accent--and apparently they do have that Bulgarian kind of sound. In fact, the chanting in the Xena theme song is a Bulgarian chorus.

BTW .. has anyone noticed that Dick Van Dyke as Bert's accent is heard today as "not so great" 
But his accent as Mr Dawes Senior is quite acceptable ? Kids in 1964 no doubt thought that's what an English Chimney Sweep sounded like in any case

I don’t want to hear about Sean Connery or Tem Morrison who didn’t even attempt accents for the nationalities they were playing.. who are some really bad attempts .. I’ll start with three big ones and come back for more later Don Cheadle - The oceans films - an English accent so terrible I thought they were going to write it into the script that it was part of his con game and that he wasn’t supposed to be English ... but no. Keanu Reeves - Bram Stokers Dracula - well he cant act so him putting on an accent was never going to work Natascha McElhone - Ronin - I don’t know what happened here, she is generally good but should’ve been recast when they saw she could not do the Irish accent Brad Pitt in Inglorious Basterds. |
