No, I personally know too many people through my work who do that and use the money for drugs/alcohol. I do buy people food though, and once I even bought someone a pack of diapers because he said on his sign that was what he needed the money for. I then directed him to a local church that I knew had those kind of supplies for needy families.

I've bought food and given that to street people. Not all of them are addicts, some just need a little help or they've gotten temporarily stranded.

No. If they want money they should scan the ground for dropped change. That's what I do - yesterday I found a ten-dollar note! (neat segue there. )

I bought a homeless person a can of beer because he looked after my dog while I was in the shop.

I bought a homeless person a can of beer because he looked after my dog while I was in the shop. Why did you do that for? Aren't most hobos alcoholics? You should have bought him a can of Pepsi instead.

You should have bought him a can of Pepsi instead. He would have ended up buying himself a beer anyway and I asked him if he wanted anything from the shop.
