...after I saw Army of Darkness, I thought it was a "star making performance." I felt the same about Jim Carrey after Ace Ventura. I was wrong about Campbell, though. His career was mostly nothing but bad tv after AOD(Ash vs Evil Dead is good). What the hell happened?

From his autobiography - "The bigger the budget, the smaller the part." Campbell has carved a decent career but he should have become a bigger star. He's got the charisma and looks. Any audio commentary with him is also worth listening to.

He's actually done a lot of great TV mostly in supporting roles. He is, however, nerd royalty. I once saw him at a comic/sci-fi convention and he got the biggest reception from the fans of all the celebrities that were there by far. Also, there were a lot of big celebs there.

Speaking of which, need to buy this Ash doll -

What was so bad after AOD? The Adventures of Brisco County, Xena, and Hercules were complete shit.

He may not have been a huge star, but he still had a busy career and always had steady work. taylorfirst1 I also saw him at a convention. I attended his Q&A session and it turned out more like a stand-up comedy act. It was pretty funny.

Bubba Ho-Tep was excellent, but yeah, not huge star material.

I think it's because he was ahead of his era in terms of acting style. It's kind of like that tongue-in-cheek meta humor. The closest I can think of is Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool but not that zany.
