Happy 86th Birthday Petula Clark!!! Born on November 15, 1932 in Ewell, Surrey, England Thanks for everything, so far...active in showbiz since 1939 British singer, actress and composer whose career spans eight decades. Dubbed "the First Lady of the British Invasion" in the 1960s. Her great successes as a recording artist might have overshadowed her movie acting career nowdays. From a chance beginning at age 9, Clark would appear on radio, film, print, television and recordings by the time she turned 17. While performing at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1944, Clark was discovered by film director Maurice Elvey, who cast her, at age 12, as precocious orphaned waif Irma in his weepy war drama Medal for the General. Some examples from her acting career: I Know Where I'm Going! 1945, by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. London Town 1946 Here Come the Huggetts 1948, with Jack Warner, and the sequels Vote for Huggett 1949 and The Huggetts Abroad 1949. Dance Hall 1950, with Natasha Parry, Diana Dors and Jane Hylton. White Corridors 1951, with James Donald. Relaxing between takes making The Card aka The Promotor 1952, with Alec Guinness and Glynis Johns. The Runaway Bus 1954, with Terence Alexander and Frankie Howerd. Track the Man Down 1955, with Kent Taylor Finian's Rainbow 1968, with Fred Astaire Goodbye, Mr. Chips 1969, with Peter O'Toole Never Never Land 1980, her last movie acting to date. Sans famille ( An Orphan's Tale) 1981, with Fabrice Franco, French TV 3-parter series bas on a novel by Hector Malot is Petula's last acting whatsoever in a filmed medium to date. A documentary from 2001. Petula Clark has acted in 38 movies and television productions, so far. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Finian's Rainbow 1968

She's a dual threat like Debbie Harry and Tanya Donelly, singing in English and French.
Bon Anniversaire, Mademoiselle Clark!

Watched her only last week in HAPPINESS OF THREE WOMEN (which could have been titled THREE COINS IN A WELSH FOUNTAIN). My favourite of hers probably hospital portmanteau WHITE CORRIDORS. DANCE HALL from the same time is difficult to dislike. And I saw her in concert at the Albert Hall at about 8 years old in 1969 and got her autograph. Shame the two big musicals she got to do as an adult were among the ones that killed of the genre for three decades or so.
Great voice
