In the ensuing seasons, Ward did mellow somewhat (at least towards Wally), but June remained the Helicopter Mom to the very end.

One character I liked was Larry Mondello, Beaver's best friend, played by Rusty Stevens. Sure, he was always getting the gullible Beaver into trouble, but in the long run, he really wasn't a bad kid--unlike Eddie Haskell and Judy Hensler.
His parents were even worse than the Cleavers: his absentee father was always out of town on "business" (HAH!), who regularly beat his son, and his mother was an addlepated nitwit!
Rusty was fired from the show after a few seasons. From what I had read on the old format, the reason was that his mother was an overbearing stage parent who made so many demands on the studio, that they finally had to let her son go. I hope he eventually overcame her dominance and grew up into a healthy, productive adult.

On MeTV here in NYC, LITB followed MY THREE SONS--the early seasons with William Frawley as "Bub".
People familiar with those early seasons know that the youngest son, Chip, was a member of the Cub Scouts. Well, that makes me wonder: what if Beaver expressed an interest in joining the Scouts? I would imagine that Ward would be delighted, and would probably tell stories about his own experience in some such organization (lies, no doubt!). But Helicopter June would be adamantly opposed to her "baby" being exposed to the rough existence of Scouts on their hiking and camping trips.
I swear--the more I watch this show, the more sick of that woman I become!
