Funny thing, we were over walking past a ballet theatre in our city the other evening, where they were conducting classes with little girls studying ballet. People walking by on the street could see inside the classroom because it was on the ground floor and the walls were just big windows onto the streets.
Dozens of girls all practicing with teachers. Not a single boy among them. lol
All the little girls who want to study ballet, but no boys want to.
Of course, you can't have the classic Swan Lake or Sleeping Beauty or The Nutcracker or Cinderella without male ballet dancers ...

Incidentally, what do you call, in English, a male ballet dancer? Is there a male equivalent for "ballerina"? (Serious question--no smartass replies, please lol)

Physically, ballet is no joke. My grandmother used to take me to the ballet when I was a kid. It's not that impressive on TV, but IRL watching those dancers is amazing. Humans are not naturally that graceful. What they do takes an incredible amounamount of skill.

Pointe shoes often cost $70-120 and only last a few hours before they're worn out. (In some cases, a pair might only last for a single performance!)

The lead male dancer is a 'ballerino', although I've rarely heard those terms used in English. Usually we say 'male ballet dancer' or 'the male lead'. |

FYI in English, feet is already plural, so you would say, "Feet are disgusting." Reminds me of people whose first language is Spanish or Portuguese speaking English. They sometimes refer to toes as "fingers" because in Spanish and Portuguese the word for fingers and toes is the same. |
