I can barely get five I think are any good, but they are very good:
1. Cool Hand Luke
2. Stalag 17
3. The Bridge on the River Kwai
4. Von Ryan's Express
5. San Quentin

Speaking of death warrant, Van Damme's In Hell (2003) is top notch prison action trash. It's all here; corrupt warden, really nasty bad guys, expert martial arts bouts, and an innocent (naturally) JCVD stuck in an ultra violent Russian prison.

some outstanding choice in this thread so far . I thought Brawl in Cell Block 99 was incredible ( I know a lot of critics complained about the run length but I found it to be appropriate for that particular film to show Vaughn's nightmare journey into hell. )
Oh and I just recently watched A Prayer Before Dawn (on Amazon Prime) and was blown away by it. Can completely understand how a lot folks wouldn't like this as it is very brutal . 8/10 Its based on a crazy true story with a great lead performance by Joe Cole.
The true story of an English boxer incarcerated in one of Thailand's most notorious prisons as he fights in Muay Thai tournaments to earn his freedom.
