Honestly, why would anyone give a fuck? If Close wins an Oscar for a film that not many hold in high esteem, or for a performance no-one really gives a rats about, just because she hasn't won before, would only show up the Academy to be more goonish than what it already is.
If there was any real justice in this world, the Academy would own up to its bulls<>t and strip Cher of her undeserved Oscar and correctly award Close a retro Oscar for Fatal Attraction - 87'. Means nothing to me

Sunday night, Glenn won the Critics' Choice award for Best Actress, in a tie with Lady Gaga, ugh! So, that makes two awards for Glenn thus far. She also received a BAFTA nomination as Best Actress.

There's been some buzz that Glenn just might win an Oscar next year (finally) for her performance in The Wife. But having seen the film myself, I'm not so sure that she'll win. For starters, the film is short -- it's only around 90 minutes or so. The film felt a bit rushed. And Glenn simply wasn't given much to do. Her role felt more like a supporting performance than a lead. The film was more about her husband's character (played by Jonathan Pryce) than about hers. Her acting nonetheless was fantastic (especially her facial expressions). She's a very nuanced actress. I just think there might be some stronger performances this year that she'll have to compete against. For example, although I still haven't seen A Private war, I have seen the trailer, and Rosamund Pike's performance looks really strong. With that being said, I love Glenn, she's my favorite actress, and I'd love for her to win an Oscar. Jonathan Pryce was also superb as her husband. In my opinion he deserves an Oscar nomination. Though, this year there are several noteworthy performances by males in leading roles, so it's unlikely that he'll get nominated unless the studio puts on a strong campaign for the film. By the way, Glenn's real-life daughter Annie plays a younger version of Glenn's character in the film. I thought that was a nice touch. perhaps but still got Colman here as well.

Saw it today and it definitely was not all about the husband. Acting is more than lines, she did her best acting by not even saying anything in some scenes. Give her that Oscar!

I think Close'll get the Oscar but I'd like it to go to Lady Gaga.

Well, the Oscar voting has officially ended as of today. I have faith that Glenn will win. I don't think the academy will let this opportunity go by. She's 71 years old, now is their chance to give her the Oscar that eluded her during all these years.

Last I checked, the Best Actress Oscar's supposed to be a reward for the best performance OF THE YEAR.

People just vote for what they personally prefer. Look at all the times that Glenn herself lost the Oscar. Did Cher in Moonstruck give the best performance of the year? And even if people consider this a "career Oscar" for Glenn, she wouldn't be the first and she won't be the last. Paul Newman, Al Pacino, and many others come to mind.

I want Close to win. She was great in The Wife, she really flexes her acting muscles in my opinion. We all have our preferences, but there's no denying she was great. I thought Olivia Colman was great too, but I'd still rather Close finally get crowned. She's both worthy and overdue.

If they have indeed given out acting awards based on overall filmographies before, then that's contemptible.
