Squeaky bum time tonight and I'm hoping that McKeech doesn't shit himself and pick a 1-9-1 formation. He's been here before, in 2007 when Scotland needed a result against Italy to qualify for the world cup. Italy was in one of its bad patches. The whole of Scotland wanted to see a shit or bust performance but we got a lone striker lineup and lost to a goal from Panucci in the last minute. It wasn't the result that pissed everybody off, it was the lack of attacking intent. So none of that tonight. Same team, same formation, same attitudes we saw against Albania. Just go for it.

Same team, so same formation. Spirits and confidence should be high. It's raining in Glesga but is forecast to stop at KOff C'mon James Forrest. Give us a goal.

"C'mon James Forrest. Give us a goal"...
...and he did. Two of them
A slow start allowed Israel to grab the early initiative and Kayal's unstoppable shot was no more than they deserved. But then Armstrong and Christie got a hold of the midfield and the Scots gradually took command. Forrest looks like scoring every time the ball goes near him. Not just tonight, he's been doing that all season. His two goals tonight were expertly taken by a player who must think that he can close his eyes and score. The only worry for me is Paterson at right back. He's the worst I've seen. Good going forward but a headless chicken when defending. He needs someone to look out for him. The rest of the team have brought their Albanian form to Hampden with Armstrong and Christie in supreme form. More in the second half plz. C'mon James Forrest. Give us another goal.

James Forrest scored exactly zero goals in his first 23 appearances for Scotland. He's scored 5 in his last two!

I think that much of the credit for this performance must go to the BRodger. McGregor, Armstrong, Christie, Forrest all play/played together in the Celtic team and it showed, especially in midfield. Forrest is lucky. Yes, but he also has a wonderfully composed touch around the opposition goal. None of his goals were easy tap-ins. They required a level of skill which Messi/Ronaldo would be pleased with. At Celtic, he usually stays wide but in McKeech's team, he seems to play as the second striker. The team conceded possession after the 3rd goal which almost cost them. That's a problem, McKeech needs to address and Paterson is a disaster waiting to happen. I don't often have the opportunity to celebrate a Scottish football success, I'm usually drowning everybody's sorrows but this is a nice change and I am thinking about opening a nice bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape or maybe a bottle of Glenmorangie Malt whisky to celebrate. First hat-trick by a Scotland player since Jimmy Quinn's in 1908.
