It's like saying compare West Side Story and Mary Poppins because they are both musicals or Singin' in the Rain vs Cabaret etc Actually no, that's a poor analogy. They aren't the same genre. So it's not like comparing two musicals with different content. They are very much the same. They both took on a subject and did a satircal comedy version of that subject. They are very similar. Breaking the fourth wall, challenging tropes, pointing out ridiculous themes, mix in some serious moments to give the film weight.

They are both satrical comedies of a genre. Shrek was a satire on the Disney Renaissance era of fairy tale tropes and musical numbers. Deadpool is a satire on the comic book genre and it's popularity. They may both be satrical comedies of a genre but they're NOTHING alike. These are too far apart to compare or choose between, imo. What len said is pretty much what I said. They are simply too different to compare. Choices seem to be being made by preferred genre rather than how well they did the "satire" or "parody" aspect.
on another subject ...there is a difference between satire and parody but that's for another day and another thread.

Spaceballs / Blazing Saddles might be an example of a pair to compare / contrast (or whatever the aim of the thread is ) @thegodfather and even with them, there would be choosing between space and western genres involved.

Prefer Deadpool. I always found Shrek to be overrated, and more annoying than funny. It's no secret that DreamWorks lack the same sort of quality that goes into Pixar animations.

Shrek and Prince of Egypt are better than most Pixar films, agreed DreamWorks went downhill though How to Train your Dragon is good. In any case, Shrek isn't overrated.

Shrek blows Deadpool out of the water for me. It is one of my favorite movies.
I didn't find Deadpool very funny.
