That Duel of the Fates still gives me goosebumps.
The movie was flawed, all the prequels are to some degree, but there are still parts I love, so I can't outright hate this movie.

I’m so sick of prequels. The Star Wars prequels sucked. The Hobbit trilogy sucked. And now we have the Fantastic Beasts saga to deal with.

All my memories of that trailer are great memories! When Darth Maul first appears I had nerdgasm! Later when Darth Maul re-appears with the double sided lightsaber I nerdgasmed again. To gasm twice in such a short time is beyond even my abilities and I was much younger then! One cant be expected to gasm that much back to back within three minutes. That's a gasm every minute and a half.
Best trailer... maybe ever!
Then I actually saw the movie... oh well... you cant win 'em all...
Darth Maul should have lived past the one movie and he should not have been taken out that way. He just stands there and watches the guy flip over him where he had the higher ground? C'mon! Darth Maul could have/should have been a Vader level villain. In fact that was my hope. When I saw how little they were using him throughout the movie and how he died so stupidly I was quite disappointed.
If there's one good thing that came out of Solo it's Darth Maul LIVES!!!
oh oops spoliers!

Yeah man. My dad was obsessed with Star Wars. We owned the original trilogy on VHS.
So I was 13 when Phantom Menace was released in 1999. I collected all the Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi One, Mountain Dew cans.
My Dad said I missed out when the original trilogy was in theaters, but this could be our experience. To see them all together in theaters. Just like when he was a teenager.
We watched this trailer and he was so excited. Me too.
Then we saw the movie. It sucked. He hated it so much. I thought it was fun (being 13, I didn't know). I just remember him fussing and trashing it. We never saw the other two in theaters. He refused to go. We had planned on seeing Phantom a few times and then seeing the other two together, like a tradition we shared, a father passing the torch to me. It didn't work out that way.
So when Episode VII came out, he asked me to seen it with him and my 5 year old son. I told him no. And I hate Star Wars to this day.

I saw it then and loved it. Then I saw the movie and loved it. All these years later I still love the film. Same. I liked the movie when it first came out too and still enjoy it now. I don't remember there being much hate for it when it first came out here in Australia and a lot of people I knew that saw the movie actually liked it and it wasn't until years later I found out how much the prequels were hated by some of the die hard fans and while I don't think they were as good as the original trilogy I don't think they are that bad.

So, after seeing that one movie you all of a sudden have a strong distaste towards the franchise?

I wasn’t even born when Phantom Menace came out, so I have ZERO idea of what it was like.
That being said, I can definitely see the disappointment everyone had when it hit. We’ve waited all those 16 years of time since the last one to get this? But at least now those times are gone and we can just accept it and move on with the current stream of SW.

I don't quite remember the trailer but I remember disliking the movie at first watch. That changed later when I realized who Palpatine was and the movie's plot finally made sense. It's still my least favorite prequel but it has the most amazing and creative art design and world building; some of the best action scenes and characters are in there. William's score is in my Top 10 composed movie soundtracks. Also it had this: I doubt we will ever have a creative genius like George Lucas in terms of storytelling and imagination again.

I remember all the hype. I worked in a grocery store at the time and there were all sorts of Episode 1 cardboard cut outs all over the store for different products. Pepsi had an R2D2 thing that they loaded up with 20oz bottles in it.
When I saw the movie I really wanted to like it. I didn't think it was terrible, but at the time it was my least favorite Star Wars movie. I did like the lightsaber battles. I thought Darth Maul was cool. I hated Jar Jar, I thought Anakin was annoying, and I thought it was a mistake how the origins of the force was explained.
