Every now and then I want to give a shout out to someone I haven't seen for a while. Just saw Diane Baker in a Night Gallery episode: "They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar", where she plays William Windom's loyal secretary. She's done mostly TV work, but I remember her from Marnie also. Just wanted to share a few photos.

I remember her from: The Diary of Anne Frank 1959 Journey to the Center of the Earth 1959 The 300 Spartans 1962, that I watched not that long ago. Silence of the Lambs 1991 and probably a few more, Lambs I didn't even know until a few minutes ago.

She was absolutely gorgeous in Marnie.
Also appeared as Sandra Bullock's mother in The Net.

Thanks for the thread, Wm -- fond memories of Diane:
Lovesick office worker in THE BEST OF EVERYTHING (Robert Evans does her dirty)
Conflicted loyalties in THE PRIZE (with Paul Newman) and in MIRAGE (with Gregory Peck)
and as crazy Joan Crawford's even crazier daughter in STRAIT-JACKET

I remember having a conversation with a couple of friends about her character/performance in Marnie. We concluded that regardless of pigmentation, Diane Baker was the "Hitchcock Blonde," in that film.
Her character, Lil, had so many of the traits of the "Hitchcock Blonde;" smoldering, a little playful, and maybe inclined toward a bit of danger. I heard Pat Hitchcock say, in an interview, that the HB made you wonder where she was on the Naughty-to-Nice scale.
Per the plot, Hedren's Marnie couldn't be played to fit that profile.
For a brunette, she was a pretty good blonde.

A personal favorite. A very good actress, and a very special person, a great friend to everyone. There are no less than seven "special" and "very special thanks" to her on imdb. She's also a producer, something she started doing long ago when actresses generally speaking didn't do that. She produced several Afterschool specials, the mini-series, A Woman of Substance (1985), starring Deborah Kerr, and several shorts. Her first production was the wonderful Portrait of Grandpa Doc (1977), starring Melvyn Douglas, Bruce Davidson, and Barbara Rush. For several years she's served as a teacher and Executive Director of the School of Acting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, while continuing to act. She's a woman of great spirit, talent, and integrity. I can't speak highly enough of her. Here with her beloved best friend, Robert Osborn:

Yes MARNIE my favourite Hitchcock and she is a splendid foil/rival for Tippi.
She seemed to have a good few years in the early 60s, and then drifted into TV. MIRAGE was a solid one and she had another second lead in an6ther biggie - THE PRIZE.
She played the ingénue with Crawford three times! (a TV Pilot called DELLA as well as THE BEST OF EVERYTHING and STRAITJACKET) - a testament to her staying power!

First time I saw her was in The Silence of the Lambs. In a movie full of quotable lines, I never forgot her delivery of, "Take this...thing back to Baltimore."
Then I started seeing her in lots of things and learned she was in some classics.
Of her movies, so far I've seen her in: Journey to the Center of the Earth Marnie The Silence of the Lambs Twenty Bucks The Net The Cable Guy Courage Under Fire Murder at 1600 A Mighty Wind

Yeah I first noticed her by name in Silence of the Lambs (I met a girl in school who looked exactly like her around that time) but for sure had seen her much earlier. She was also in the final episode of the Fugitive. "Tuesday, September 5th: the day the running stopped."
