A few days at a nice hotel - the one where the last G7 summit was held.

A new litter box for the cat. To show his gratitude, he's been filling it up as often as he can.

The new scratching post arrived today. But don't tell the cats ... it's a Christmas surprise!

i purchased for the shop:
a slew of SSD hard drives, a case of keyboards and mice, a color hp laser printer, 6 touchscreen monitors, 2 other monitors, 3 monitor stands.
for me and the family i bought some digital movies for about $100.
i'd like to say i am done shopping but i cannot resist a good deal to use to stock up my shop.
I got a little spendy around Thanksgiving too. Got a 65" 4k tv, UHD player, 32" monitor for the office, upgraded the videocard to a workstation rig, replaced my boot and app drives with SSDs too and retired my computer speakers for a soundbar with optical inputs. My computer is 7 years old, the SSD's sped it up enough to make me think I'll keep it another 7.

We used to have a patch of catnip growing in a flowerbed beside the house, about14'x3', and I'm sure you can imagine what that was like.

I've had my eye on a couple of air fryers for a few months, but the prices never came down. I came across this one a few days ago which was less expensive with better features and better reviews, so I ordered it a few days ago - should be here next week. {Too funny! While looking for an image to post, I found it for ten bucks less from another supplier - $66.65 delivered from Cookhouze. I'll return the one I get from Amazon - free returns/no hassle.} www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D8VJ3ZR/

Best chicken ever, never mind fries, onion rings, shrimp, blah blah blah. My 'lesson', if you even want to call it that? Chicken, seafood, etc? Always 'quick thaw' first. Don't cook from frozen, even though folks say you can. Two minutes extra in an air frier can be the equivalent of 15 minutes 'oven time' on say? Wings, etc. As compared to frozen. If one 'likes' the 'corn fried' taste? You can sprinkle it with "Pam", etc. Coat it very thin filmed with oil. Pre made burritos, etc, really work well like this. EXTRA CRISPY! Cheer's! Air Fryers are awesome!

Rock climbing. I bought another pair of Scarpa shoes, I really like the way they heel hook.
Yeah, well, I couldn't heel hook to save my life.
For expedition and ice, I have a pair of old-school Scarpa Invernos. Really heavy, but warm and stable.
My heels aren't the problem, it's my calfs. Old rugby injuries mean they feel like they're going to snap like rubber bands every time I put a little bit of pressure on a heel hook. Would love to do some ice climbing, need to travel out of the UK and find somewhere good for beginners.

Leadable WI 2 to WI 6 and world competition level mixed climbing, if you are into that sort of thing (one rated at MI 15-!). Because there are anchors at the top of many areas, toproping is easy, too. The beginner routes are walking distance from the town. If you are a beginner, you can probably get away with no motor vehicle (use a shuttle to and from town, and none needed in town).

My lead climbing is pretty good so it would be nice to go somewhere different to challenge myself with that while having a go at ice climbing. Thanks, time to research a holiday! Is there much bouldering that way in Colorado?

Is there much bouldering that way in Colorado? Not in January or late December, when you want to go to get the ice. Good place for working on your mixed climbing, though. For what it is worth: my experience with European climbers on their first USA trip is that they often show up with really solid skills, great technical equipment, and inadequate equipment for the amount of cold they will be dealing with. Happens in both Colorado and Denali (and Canada too). The good bouldering will probably be under snow or ice. Also: Ouray is at 7,700', and that takes the edge off of everyone's energy for the first few days. Never bouldered in minus 20 degrees (C), but good luck if that is your thing... Colorado is better known for multipitch moderate trad climbing, but I never went for that (had that closer to home).
