As a Canadian I can honestly say that if that's the best we have to offer, I am ashamed.
The movie has a pretty generic story, which includes some scenes that are mostly based on what was made in some well known movies. The dialogues are correct but the use of profanities is trying to hard to make believe the characters are somewhat crass. It's over the top. Note that I grew up in another borough of Montréal that has a similar reputation and reality. I wasn't involved in the crime aspect but I know how the people sound and act.
Still, the main reason I disliked it and probably some of you would is that all the main actors, except for Claudel Laberge, are caught on tape being out of character or really struggling to convey the emotions or words they are supposed to deliver. They all have at least one time, if not more in some cases, were it's just painful to watch how the acting is off. Now, don't get me wrong Laberge doesn't deliver a stellar performance but she delivers exactly what you would expect without the issues the others had.
I understand this wasn't a big budget production and that it was the first feature-length motion picture that Sophie Dupuis directed but it fell short on a few aspects. Add the highly redundant close-up shots, that could have easily been replaced by other sequences or angles, and you have the last point that makes the movie unenjoyable.

We already know that "Border" (2018) is going to be Sweden's submission.
