Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) [dvd] Spawn: Director's Cut (1997) [dvd] Aftermath (2016)Is that the Arnold film? I am planning on getting the DVD of it when it finally is released next week (in Norway that is) and it would be interesting to hear what you thought of it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I really need to see that film as I have never seen the whole film, just some parts here and there. Also, I need to re-watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV-show, as I have not seen a episode since summer/autumn of 2003. I have the same Spawn version on DVD, actually I think I never have seen the other version, just the Director's Cut. A "goofy" but still very enjoyable action/super-hero/sci-fi adventure that somehow have become a bit "forgotten", especially the fantastic performance by John Leguizamo and a smokin' hot Theresa Randle.

Yep, it's the Arnie film. I haven't been watching much films lately, as I started rewatching "The X-Files" series, but I'll probably watch it by the end of the week and pop my thoughts about it in the "what horror, thriller, suspense films you watched" thread. My friend was telling me the tone and style was similar to "Maggie" with Arnie focusing on his acting chops in a somber slow burn thriller drama. Likewise.... as a young teen I used to be addicted to the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", but never actually watched the film that inspired it. Would be interesting to see Kristy Swanson's portrayal, as i remember reading/hearing people actually prefer her over Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Yeah, I have heard about that too that she does a good job on the Buffy part, and I have always had thing for Kristy since seeing her in Wes Craven's Deadly Friend (1986) and I think Rutger Hauer either plays an evil vampire (again) or the one who trains Buffy, but then again it is so long since I saw a few bits of it late a night on TV back in the early 00s.
I guess many of his fans was expecting something like a Taken kind of vigilante/revenge action movie, and instead it seems like a more character driven, slow-motion, depressing drama thriller, and by the looks of the reviews, many people did not like that change of tone in a Arnold movie, but I kind of liked his few scenes in Maggie, so I am hoping for the best with this one.

Rutger plays the head vampire. Donald Sutherland plays the guy who trains Buffy.

Thanks, I completely forgot that Donald Sutherland starred in that one. I ended up purchasing several movies and even a video game, been a while since I last bought one:
Muppets From Space - 1999 (DVD) I really enjoy the first few films of this franchise/series, and this one I have never seen, so when I found a brand new DVD for absolutely nothing, I had to buy it.
Lego DC Comics Superheroes: Justice League - Gotham City Breakout - 2016 (DVD) I actually enjoyed the Batman Lego movie from 2013 or 2014, much thanks to the music from the Batman movies with Michael Keaton and lots of fun nostalgia, then the ones that followed straight to DVD was not as good, but more ok.
The Wolverine - 2013 (Blu-ray) I thought I had seen this, but turned out it was the other Wolverine movie (cannot remember the title of that) but I did not enjoy it, but since this one from 2013 is by many regarded as one of the better (some even claiming it to be more fun than the last Logan picture), so I hope for the best.
Aftermath - 2016 (DVD) Finally, well I have to see first, but I have not been this excited over an new Arnold film since The Last Stand (2013), which I guess says very little, but again, I do hope it will at least be better than his latest below average/awful films.
Once Upon A Time In Venice - 2017 (DVD) Bruce Willis, John Goodman, Jason Mamoa and Famke Janssen. I saw the trailer back in early june and thought that it looked quite good or at least enjoyable, compared to the usual "zombie" borefests of Bruce and again, I hope for the best.
Killing Time - 1987 (DVD) Thriller from the late 80s starring Kiefer Sutherland and Beau Bridges, and I think I have seen it before (back in summer of 2011 or 12) and decided to pick up a used copy of it.
The X-Files: The Complete First Season (DVD) As a kid I do remember sneaking up and watching some of the earliest episodes on TV, and the intro theme alone would scare the shit out of me, then I ended up watching much later on the last seasons with Robert Patrick, which I thought was ok, but not great. So now, finally I get the chance of re-watching the whole season 1, which I think was first sent in Norway in 1994.
Mr. Brooks - 2007 (DVD) Crime-thriller with Kevin Costner, Demi Moore and William Hurt. Impulse buy.
Son of the Mask - 2005 (DVD) I have to break my little "promise" of not watching thise one (as I love the original), but still it was dirt cheap, and well if is so god awful as many says, I will just turn it off and into the garbage you go.
Willow - 1988 (DVD) Another movie I thought I had in my collection, turns out, I did not. Been some while since I last saw it, but remember it as a fun filled late 80s fantasy/adventure.
The Killer - 1989 (DVD) Ashamed of it, but I have never seen this one, but there's a first time for everything.
Trespass - 2011 (DVD) Looks like some average, thriller starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman, directed by Joel Schumacher. I like how the DVD artwork references Schumacher and stuff like Phantom of the Opera and Batman & Robin but not his best finest hour, Falling Down. And by that, I guess I have not exactly set my self up for another "classic" to look forward to, but for the price of nothing, I can easily survive through another mediocre Nicolas Cage adventure, with style.
2046 - 2004 (DVD) Another Hong Kong movie, this time, I think it is Sci-fi that I have never seen before.
The Day The Earth Stood Still - 2008 (DVD) Keanu Reeves in a remake (I think) of an older sci-fi/action movie. Impulse buy, yet again.
Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon - 2008 (DVD) Another Hong Kong film, and again an impulse buy.
Looper - 2012 (DVD) Bruce Willis and that smug looking guy who almost ruined The Dark Knight Rises as the new boy wonder. From the look of the DVD cover, it is hailed as one of the "best" action movies for a long time. Means very little to me, as I have heard that been said so many times about films I thought where at best mediocre, but I will try and go in with an open mind.
Happy Gilmore & Billy Madison 2 Disc Edition (DVD) Adam Sandler, and, well I only bought it because of Happy Gilmore, as I had not seen it since the early 00s, and it was, well not that bad but then again it is a "classic" Sandler production and for the price of nothing at all, I thought I might just give it a chance.
The Stepford Wives - 2004 (DVD) Another impulse buy that I expect very little if anything from.
The Crow - 1994 (DVD) I already own another DVD version of this cult classic, but the sound is terrible and with no subtitles, the film ends up sadly as one big and loud, annoying mess. Finally I got a version with subtitles and some bonus features too.
Jean De Florette - 1986 (DVD) Some french drama movie, which is not exactly my type of enterainment, but it did seem like a solid film by the DVD cover, and comes with a strong cast, so it might be worthy a go.
Gettysburg & Gods and Generals 2 movies in one pack edition (DVD) I have only seen parts of Gettysburg with Jeff Daniels, Tom Berenger and Martin Sheen and thought it was very good, or at least what little I saw back then. Found a 2 movie pack which came with that and God and Generals where once again Jeff Daniels is back, and teams up with Stephen Lang and Robert Duvall.
Kingdom Hearts 1,5 Remix - PS3 I rarely buy new video games, and I am maybe a bit too nostalgic, I still have no plans on purchasing a PS4 machine, and still plays video games from the 90s and early 00s, way more than the new ones. Anyway, this one I have heard of several times, but never played before, so I hope it might live up the hype.

Good Guys Wear Black / A Force of One (Chuck Norris Double Feature) (DVD) Death Line (Collector's Edition) (Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack) Jack the Ripper (1976) (DVD) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (50th Anniversary Special Edition) (Blu-ray) Missing in Action (Collector's Edition) (Blu-ray) Them! (1954) (Blu-ray) Plan 9 from Outer Space (Blu-ray)Some truly great stuff there, heysweden. Jack the Ripper, the Klaus Kinski version I enjoyed very much. Creepy and surprisingly well made movie that stands as maybe my favorite Jack the Ripper film, along with the Michael Caine version that came on in the late 80s. Plan 9 is a riot, which I need to re-watch soon, and the Chuck Norris titles I have not seen for a while either, but remember some of them to be very good entertainment.

Means very little to me, as I have heard that been said so many times about films I thought where at best mediocre, but I will try and go in with an open mind. So I watched "Aftermath" last night and I can see why some might feel disappointed by it. I would say lower those expectations. I was going to post my thoughts in the suspense/horror/thriller thread, but really this is a straight-up, slow, methodical and dreary character drama and far from a thriller. The whole revenge angle is an afterthought and plays out realistically in its development. It leaves you feeling hollow, as by the end the actions come full circle. I find the movie's tagline "All he had left was revenge" to be very misleading. The first hour of the film, the narrative shows two sides of the gut wrenching story. The lead up to the ordeal, the consequences that followed and the devastating processes of handling loss and guilt. Revenge isn't even mentioned, as what happens is more emotional and spur of the moment. Schwarzenegger is rock solid (in tragic figure mode); equally sharing his screen time with Elliott Lester as the traffic controller whose error caused the death of hundreds in a mid-air collision. Everything about it is humane and low-key, as feelings simmer and there's nothing over-the-top. I thought the first hour following these two broken psyches was engaging and it's not until just after the hour mark (a year later) they finally come face to face. I won't spoil too much, but from then on it’s blunt and plays of the grey moral shades leading to a finale that just proves the emptiness and that everyone hurts. The visual style is shot and scored just like "Maggie". It's generic, but really well acted. Just letting you know "2046" is a sequel, and a romantic drama despite the backdrop. Visually speaking it's quite impressive. I definitely recommend "The Killer", "Looper" and "Mr Brooks". The latter really surprised me. Costner and Hurt work off each other perfectly. I've been curious about "Once Upon A Time In Venice". I just finished rewatching the 2nd Season of "The X-Files" today. Both seasons stand-up rather well and I pretty much remember nearly all of the episodes. The 2nd season really does up the ante after the 1st Season sets everything up. The writing excels, always varied and the chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson is naturally good.

I was planning to see the film last night, but after 3 below average movies in a row, I was not in the mood for another letdown, and where Once Upon a Time in Venice was, well not the movie I had hoped it would be. But, then again, maybe you end up enjoying it more than I, and well, I will see how Aftermatch turns out later on, and maybe write a few lines in the action section tomorrow. Thanks for your review of the film by the way.
I do look forward to The Killer and Mr. Brooks as it seems like to interesting films, and who knows, maybe Looper turns out to be a pleasant surprise (I could need a few of those, as I have not been impressed with the films I have seen recently).

Bought some more films and TV-series today, all use, some not even unwrapped from their original sealing.
Texas Walker Ranger (season 1-5) DVD I used to catch a few episodes a week, when it was on in the late 90s and early 00s, and while I was not a big fan, I do enjoyed the episode I saw. Found season 1 and up to five for a dirt cheap price and they look brand new, so I could not let that go by.
The Cat in the Hat (2003 DVD Impulse buy
Hugo (2011) DVD Think I have seen it, once but do not remember much either than Borat looking very much like a more serious version of Inspector Clouseau.
Wishmaster: Devilstone (2001) DVD
Conan the Barbarian (1982) DVD Already own this, but what the hell, one of my all time favorite Arnie films and adventure/fantasy titles, and I could not let such a cheap but almost brand new DVD copy go by.

All DVD: X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014) Well, I got X-Men: First Class just a few days ago, and to my surprise I enjoyed it, not great but better than expected. I think I have seen Days Of Future Past before, and do not remember much from it, so maybe a re-watch is not a bad idea. And Now for Something Completely Different (1971) I tried getting into the Monty Python show as both a teenager and then later on when seeing some of their films, but I never became a big fan, so this one is more like a impulse buy, very cheap DVD and brand new, so it is not the end of the world if it becomes another disappointing "adventure". Sharknado & Sharknado 2: The Second One Double Disc Edition Found the first two for the price of nothing, and while I did not like the third one, I might give these two a chance. What We Do in the Shadows (2014) Ozzie mockumentary (I think), and from what I hear it is supposedly a very good one, so this I hope will live up to some the raving reviews it got. The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) Impulse buy, solid cast and I do not what to expect, the DVD cover on the backside says it is a black comedy, the front says it is a horror movie, and so I think the best judge is none other than myself. The Cassandra Crossing (1976) Solid cast, but looks like a mediocre/poor disaster film, found a dirt cheap copy and well, I go in with very low expecations. Thirteen Days (2000) Impulse buy, again, solid cast and a very interesting plot/story, so I hope it might be a positive surprise. IT (1990) I already have one VHS copy, one DVD copy, one Blu-ray copy and well, I found a dirt cheap brand new DVD copy from 2010, and I could not ignore it, so I bought it, yet again. Always enjoyed chapter one, the second one however, was a bit of a letdown and I think it might be the right time to re-discover this entertaining and somewhat uneven but still good Stephen King mini-series, once more.

That is the consensus, that the first half of 'It' with The Losers as children is the better half. Overall, the 1990 adaptation is a mixed bag. Director Tommy Lee Wallace wanted a darker tone, but he was limited by the constraints of network television. Tim Curry is a hoot as Pennywise, but the other adults aren't very good.

I don't think I've seen an entire episode of 'Walker, Texas Ranger'. I do remember that on his old talk show, Conan O'Brien had the 'Walker, Texas Ranger' lever, and that was always good for some laughs.
I need a rewatch of "Conan the Barbarian". It's been too long.

I was just surprised of how long the Texas Walker Ranger actually ran on TV, but I do remember that the episodes I watched was often fun and some of them would include not too unfamiliar plots/characters from Norris earlier 80s movies. I hope you'll enjoy the rewatch of Conan, as that is some movie, if only today's modern CGI dominated fantasy/action films would have 5-10 percent of that kind of fun and magical atmosphere which the films of the 80s had, and maybe most important, the music, then I would be very happy. That is the consensus, that the first half of 'It' with The Losers as children is the better half. Overall, the 1990 adaptation is a mixed bag. Did not know that Tommy Lee Wallace wanted a darker tone, that sounds interesting, and would have loved seeing a director's cut lying somewhere around, but I guess it would have been known by now if one existed. Still, I hope the upcoming film will do the mini-series proud, at least my favorite part, which it seems like this new film will be about.

I am curious about this new film version of "It". It's not a perfect novel, of course; it has some flaws. But there are some absolutely great horror set pieces in it, and I was always kind of hoping that the novel would get a more faithful adaptation (which this new film supposedly is). I know they actually have sequences with the Leper and the house on Neibolt Street. I know they updated the time frame, with the story taking place in 1990. I guess it was easier to do that than to try to replicate Kings' very specific time frame (1958). I've heard that if this film does good enough box office, then the studio WILL make a part two with the Losers as adults. They're just sort of testing the waters here.
I perused the cast list at IMDb a while back and the majority of the cast look like unknowns. The only name I recognized was Steven Williams (of '21 Jump Street' and "Jason Goes to Hell" fame), who plays Mike Hanlons' father.

I have still not read the novel, (I have some homework to do right there, I know) but I am very interested in seeing how this film will go down, not just with the critics, but more importantly the fans of the novel/mini-series, and of course to see if we might have a second part coming afterwards, whic I do hope.
I am kind of glad they went with unkowns rather than well knowns, as that might sometimes be a bit of a "distraction". Anyway, I am hoping that for those who sees the film might pop in with either a new topic/thread for the film or post their reviews of it in the last horror movie film seen thread.
Also curious of how the music/theme would turn out, as the opening titles/theme of the 1990 one is really great and kind of sets the mood/tone for the film/mini-series already within the first few seconds.

Todays movie buys, all DVD:
The Thirteenth Floor (1999) Impulse buy, and looks like a sci-fi thriller, well judging only by the DVD artwork/cover.
Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbuster II (1989) I already own two copies of each film on DVD and one on VHS, and these ones I found today where almost brand new, and I could not let two classics like that go by for such a cheap price.
Bedazzled (2000) Only bought this because of Elizabeth Hurley, probably an awful movie (most ones starring Brendan Fraser often turns out like that) but who knows, maybe it will be a surprise after all.
The Battle of Red Cliff (2008) Impulse buy, well almost as I think I might have seen parts of the film before, but never the whole film. Directed by John Woo, and hopefully a good one.
End Of Day (1999) Horror/fantasy/thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robin Tunney and Gabriel Byrne as Satan himself. I was not too impressed by the film last time I saw it, but maybe a re-watch might change it.
Hero (2002) Chinese war/drama, looks like it could be quality, or at least juding only by the actors involved.
Indecent Proposal (1993) Erotic thriller? Well, it sure looks sleazy and well, another day, another impulse buy.
The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986) Do not remember much of this film, other than it stars Daryl Hannah as a beautiful cave woman, named Ayla and she ends up fighting against a bunch of brutal cave men.
Don't Kill It (2016) Dolph Lundgren, as a demon hunter named, Jebediah Woodley. Looks, well, not awful but I will give it a chance.
"Big" Action Movies 4 Pack: Malarek (1988) Midnight Man (1995) Viper (1994) Bounty Tracker (1993) 3 Lorenzo Lamas action films, two I have seen, and one I have not. I bought it because of Viper, which I feel I was maybe not critical of and for such a cheap price, I thought it was about time to re-watch some of his 90s "classics" along with a fine portion of hilarious bad guys, cheesy one-liners, low-budget gun fights and big breasted blondes.
Other films that I purchased today:
Tombstone (1993) The Shipping News (2001) Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000) S.W.A.T. (2003) Big (1988) X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) Akira: The Ultimate Collection Batman: The Lego Movie (2017) The Witches (1990) Jim Henson's The Storyteller: Greek Myths (1990)
