Wait, what??!! That’s a wheel bug? I thought you were talking about those bugs that roll up into a ball. Like the bugs Arrietty plays with?

Will the real wheel bug show himself? I DID IT!!!! Yippee! BATouttaheck , ant-mac , goz , Catman , Sulla ... nasty looking little bugger, isn't he? He's an assassin bug, and you should see what he does to a squash bug - yikes! So the wheel bug is valued to get rid of other bugs, but will also feast on monarch caterpillars, so I find homes for the ones that I see at my house. YAYYYYY!!! Continuing with the thread hijacking...
I don't live all that far away from you, but I've never seen these things. I'll heed your advice and be careful not to get stung by this assassin.
OMG, that video gave me a case of the willies! The squash bugs that I fed to mine were sucked down to their shells. I've lived in this general area all my life, and didn't know about them until two years ago. Weird!

Wait, what??!! That’s a wheel bug? I thought you were talking about those bugs that roll up into a ball. No ma’am! Just when I thought I could move to your farm, help out, pay rent and live in a little house on the edge of your property with some dogs to protect the chickens you show me that beast? I’m afraid. Roley-poleys? Yes, I believe that’s what I was thinking of. One of the few bugs I’m not afraid of.

BATouttaheck , in Iowa during RAGBRAI, they pass out packets with milkweed seeds to bike riders and encourage them to toss the packets randomly into the ditches along the route.

It looks similar to one of the bugs in Starship Troopers. It penetrates the top of a guy's skull and sucks his brains out.

rachelcarson1953 I shall avoid the cute bug IF I encounter one... I got bitten by a Texas Red Ant once and that was one time too many ! For once a bug's name actually makes sense!
BTW … I also leave milkweeds growing but the Monarchs are much fewer than they used to be Neighbor uses nasty sprays on his fields Damned nasty sprays! Yeah, I'm lucky, none of my neighbors are farmers, the real farmers are over a mile away, but yes the Monarch population is shrinking, sadly. As are bees and other pollinators. Humans are going to spray themselves out of existence.

What part of the country are these critturs located ? Never heard of or saw one of these cuties ! and WTG rachelcarson1953 tol' ya it was easy ! Well, Bat, I live in Missouri, or as it's called at this time of year, Misery... but I don't know where else. But if you see one, DO NOT PICK IT UP!!! Their bite is incredibly painful, one source likened it to a gun shot. My bite hurt like hell, but I've never had a gun shot wound, so I dunno about the comparison. I feel so proud!!! Thanks, everyone, for the assist and encouragement! So you should be. You've learned a new skill.
Don't forget to practise it, so it become easy to remember.
Then you can try different sources and perhaps use imgur as well.

Can't do that in Florida.

But in the summer the state bird is the mosquito ! , Sulla Lots of flies and those Asian ladybugs inside the house in the spring and fall. No idea how they get in or exactly why. BUT no no-see-ums like in the South.

Aww, I'd make sure no wheel bugs got to you or the dogs, you don't need to be afraid! I patrol my milkweed pasture regularly, and I would bet the chickens would make short work of that bug. I've lived on this land for over thirty years and I'm still alive... so far...

BUT no no-see-ums like in the South. Vents and the spaces where the screen isn’t tight to the window frame. Why they come in is a mystery though. Especially flies considering how they go right back to the screen to get out...nasty f’ers. I’m in the south, where are you if you don’t mind me asking.
