If you're expecting me to rate GOTTI based on the Rotten Tomatoes controversy, then I have to be like a tailor who can only sell you a bad suit since all the good ones have already been bought by gangsters... i.e. I have to disappoint you. In fact, the people behind that stunt are probably happy that they got caught, since it gave the movie more publicity, which is what they really wanted all along. No, I'm going to judge it as a movie. A lot of screen time is dedicated to nothing but conversations. The writing, directing and acting aren't bad, but they're not good enough to make those scenes compelling. The plot isn't original nor exciting, but it's not boring either. In fact, the only truly bad aspect about it is John Travolta's unconvincing make-up during the scenes where the title character is old. What a shame that this was filmed more or less at the same time as FIRST MAN, because script writers Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi could've learned from it. You see, that was also a biopic that showed the protagonist losing a child in the first act before continuing to tell us why that person went down in history. However, that event had a long-lasting impact that was explored a few times, no matter the time jumps, which justified using it as a plot point. Here, the event is pretty much forgotten after 10 minutes or so. That also happens to a few other seemingly important events, because too much is being crammed into 110 minutes. Look, just because the characters move on, it doesn't mean that the plot has to. 5/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

at best, it is a "B" movie. However, I enjoyed Travolta's performance.

at best, it is a "B" movie. As in a lower budget genre movie? Or as in your grade is a B?

vits: I do not rate movies. Since it did not get theatrical release in my neck of the woods, I consider it a "B" movie. Maybe it was one of those made for cable TV movies. Since I don't have cable TV so I really don't know. I happened to see it on free network TV in my area.
And to clarify, I do love some "B" movies and truly hate some "so called blockbuster" cinema.

Meh. It was okay. Friends told me it would be trash. But it was a typical Gangster biopic movie. It wasn't the disaster some said it would be. Granted I dunno how factually accurate the movie was.
