These were the top Vietnam War movies made during the same era. Which one do you like best?
Both were great, but my vote goes to Full Metal Jacket.

I appreciated Platoon a lot more on a second viewing, but I still like Full Metal Jacket a lot more.

Platoon is my favourite Vietnam War film. I do like Full Metal Jacket, but find it very depressing and am not that keen on the latter part of the movie.

I'm not a huge fan of either, but Full Metal Jacket is a better film. I'm one of those folks though that loves the first half of the film but once it transitions to being "in country" it loses a little steam for me. It came out much later, but Gibson's "We Were Soldiers" is a better Vietnam film. And of course, in the words of Coppola "Apocalypse Now" IS Vietnam.

Full Metal Jacket by a hair, if for no other reason than the training camp scene is so awesome. But I really love both movies.

Hard choice to make, but I have to with Full Metal Jacket on this one. The acting is better all around.

The first half of FMJ > Platoon > the second half of FMJ. Overall Platoon, though. Agreed. FMJ is almost 2 separate movie in which I like the 1st half better than the 2nd half. |
