Deep Impact. Those 90s disaster flicks treated the disaster as the star while this one focused on the people. Equally compelling storylines on the ground (though I'll admit the Frodo storyline is a bit hokey) and in space, and the astronauts go out like heroes but still can't save everyone. Fantastic music during the end credits in particular. Just a solid film from top to bottom.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Not a big, loud movie with lots of 'splosions, but one that asks: If you knew
the world would end in a matter of days, what would you do? Stay with/leave your mate? Riot? Commit suicide? Gather in prayer?
Eat whatever you want? Have a yard sale? Work out in the gym? Get drunk and attempt every illicit drug you can find? It's all here.
While I love The World, the Flesh, and the Devil, I would consider it in a category of its own, since it begins with the end of the world and ends with the beginning. Or something like that.
