I finally created a reddit account after following UnresolvedMysteries for some time. I've found the case of Missy Bevers to be substantially intriguing. My up front disclaimer: I was in the military for many years. I now work in physical therapy. I have no crime/investigative experience/background whatsoever. I've read many posts on this case as well as news articles, so I could've misinterpreted something or missed key facts all together. Regardless, my intent here is to share some things that stood out to me. Feel free to shoot holes in it. Additionally, I understand that some if not all of this information has already been presented.
My Theory: Missy Bevers was targeted and murdered by a pregnant female that was familiar with her fitness classes. The car seen at SWFA Outdoors that morning was operated by the same individual that murdered her.
Assumptions and questions:
The pregnant female. I make this assumption based on watching the surveillance tape numerous times combined with my background in PT. When a female is pregnant, her center of gravity shifts forward and down. This causes the stance to narrow and hips to externally rotate (feet point outward). On surveillance, the suspect changes out tools at one point after messing with a door. The stance very much reminded me of when a pregnant patient takes an exercise break. They stagger the stance for additional balance (narrow stance with feet in line makes you a bit wobbly), the weight shifts back causing the pelvis to tilt posteriorly (a nice break from the anterior tilt common to pregnancy). The externally rotated foot (hip) during that break causes pelvic ligaments to tighten and maintain upright posture without much muscular assistance.
The next thing that made me think pregnant female was the disguise. To me, the abdominal area looks padded as opposed to a projection of body mass/structure. If the pregnant suspect knew she was going to get into a physical altercation, she would likely take additional measures to protect her baby (padding the area). Additionally, there's a point where the suspect reaches for a door handle. Instead of simply reaching forward, she walks slightly past the door and side bends towards the handle and thereby avoids stress on the frontside of her body.
That takes me to the hammer swing toward the end of video surveillance. The swing is...flimsy. It's not even nonchalant, it's unsupported. To me, it doesn't look like the swing of a relaxed assailant, it looks like the swing of someone who lacks grip strength. Again, this just further pushes me to assume the suspect is a pregnant female. Lastly, I have a question from this last bit of the surveillance. What is in the suspect's left hand? It looks like a white box of some type. I tried searching for an answer but came up dry.
Note: I also understand there are other conditions/comorbities that could result in similar and movement.
Familiar with fitness classes. I've seen many posts of people suggesting this due to the timeline of the attack alone. However, I have a few questions about the proposed familiarity:
a. Assuming the suspect knew the church layout from previous indoor classes, did police review the surveillance camera footage from the days, weeks, months prior to the murder? If the suspect performed some pre-murder reconnaisance on the cameras, was there any previous footage of a person going through the church that seemed a bit too focused on the cameras? All that said, had they performed the class indoors before or was this the first time?
b. The bumper sticker from the SWFA outdoor footage. I know there are many bumper stickers shaped like that but has anyone proposed that it looks like a marathon completion sticker? You know the "13.1" or "26.2" that people proudly show off. That's what it looks like to me. While I'm sure the list would be massive, have police tried to cross reference females that have finished local marathons (as most require registration), with females that had a child a few months following the murder, with females that have attended Camp Gladiator classes? I don't know if all that information is available or how overwhelming it would be. However, 2+ years later into an unsolved case, I feel like exploring any alley, no matter how expansive, could be worth it. Additionally, I'm sure there's additional factors you could contribute to the search....Again, I'm no expert!
b. Just as I think the suspect looked into the surveillance camera locations/orientations prior to the murder; I think they also did a site recon of nearby buildings the morning of the murder. This is why I think the car at SWFA Outdoors belongs to the suspect. She wanted to take a look around and ensure there were no police snoozing in a back lot somewhere nearby.
Lastly, I think Missy's suspected (or proven?) infidelity could've played a role. Perhaps the jealous, pregnant wife of a boy toy? I don't have much to say on this one as I'm sure police heavily investigated this alley.
Any feedback is appreciated.
