For the benefit of our American friends who don't understand the question, what I'm really asking is: are monster truck exhibitions viewed as a meeting point for your country's great minds?

Dunno about monster trucking mate, but take a look at the 'Next Up' video after the clip : 'Amazing ski trip...' (caption to right of main clip) Look how far he flies!
edit : apologies for going off topic here

Do you get a lot of professors at these events? I always suspected you'd get a lot of Donald Trump type fans.

You are being a bigot. Uhh, I have a 147 IQ. That puts me at the level of an Einstein. Guess what? I have attended a Monster Truck show. It was fantastic. One of the highlights of my sports attending life. You know how you would give anything to have seen in person Babe Ruth play baseball, Michael Jordan play basketball, Wayne Gretzky play hockey, or Landon Donovan play soccer? Well, in the world of Monster trucks, Dennis Anderson and his truck Grave Digger are the stuff of myth and lore. Legends. And I saw them live. Not only did I see them live, I saw Dennis Anderson win that night. Was just like seeing Babe Ruth hit a home run. Can you say you've seen that? Have you seen Pele score a goal in person? Nope. But I saw Grave Digger win!

"For the benefit of our American friends who don't understand the question, what I'm really asking is: are monster truck exhibitions viewed as a meeting point for your country's great minds?" Translation: "For the benefit of our American friends who don't understand the question, what I'm really asking is: are monster truck exhibitions viewed as a meeting point for your country's ignorant rednecks?" Manly Stanley is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He doesn't have me fooled. I've never been to a live event but I've watched them a few times on television channel-surfing. They look like fun events. You do have a point. You won't find many MENSA members in the crowd. Who knows? Maybe a few are there. I bet it would be a lot of fun to drive one of those bad boys.

Many in the crowd came with headphones or plugs for their ears. They obviously had attended Monster Truck shows before. It was very, very loud...to the point where it actually started to hurt. Also there was a very noxious smell throughout the whole event. Fuel, emissions, rubber burning...it was really wicked to be breathing that crap in all night long. But it was a hell of a lot more fun than I thought it would be. So glad I went.

Obviously more of a redneck crowd at those things, but I brought my son to one last year and I have to admit we had a blast. You can get a kick out of that stuff without being a total hick. It's amazing how politicized everything in our society has become, though. There were a ton of rednecks wearing 2nd amendment t-shirts and the like. Not my typical crowd but I suppose I was no more or less out of place than I would be at some left leaning rally about legalizing pot or whatever.

Thats a cool flip. I remember going to one of those monster truck shows(and having a cool Matchbox bigfoot truck) back in the 80's. Show was crap though compared that flipping one.

Was that in Ireland? I used to go to Ireland/NI every summer when I was a kid, and now you mention it I do remember seeing posters for these events when I went over... never attended though.

Down in Limerick. The truck actually went out of control at the end and nearly killed a few people, or so I remember. It was like something out of Father Ted but without the laughs.
