Most of the reviews I'm seeing, so far, say Aquaman is good, yet you says its "meh". Who's to say you wouldn't have thought Bumblebee was even more "meh"? 1/4 of critics are at best not keen on Aquaman, while 3% of critics are at best not keen on Bumblebee. Half of top critics don't really like Aquaman, while zero top critics don't like Bumblebee. I'm just basing my assertion on probability, bro. Which means you could be perfectly correct.....but it isn't that likely. If it sucks when I see it I'll admit it. In the meantime there's this too...

It’s the same audience. I think most people were expecting Aquaman to easily handle Bumblebee, but if BB gets very good reviews and Aquaman gets middling reviews, will the tables turn? No. Last year Jumanji made 400 million despite there being a Star Wars movie out. Same thing with Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. The Christmas break stretches over at least 10 days, so there are ample time for people to see more than one movie. Anyway most people dont bother with reviews. just see how much money movies like Venom And Suicide Squad made.

So as it turns out, Aquaman beat out Bumblebee, Marry Poppins, and Spider-Man:Into the Spiderverse last weekend. It made more money in its domestic take than all of those films combined. An to the person who argued that Bumblebee would be a better film even though he would never see it, the scoreboard says different.

An to the person who argued that Bumblebee would be a better film even though he would never see it, the scoreboard says different. to be fair, the films are very different, like comparing ET to Raiders of the lost Arc. Even the audience ratings are not that conclusive as too different in review numbers (3.5 vs 21k).
Bumblebee is the best and the only watchable Transformers film IMO. It is still only average as it does nothing new but ripping off ET plot beats and other 80s stuff and inserting countless pop songs as soundtrack. The high critics rating is bc they replaced the horny nerd-boy with a pretty, capable girl who has a "romantic" entanglement with an adoring black nerd kid and most of Bay's mecha-clobber porn is replaced by sentimentality, friendship and teen angst.
as you set out correctly, the only thing that can be said objectively is that Aquaqman internationally beat all the other films (Poppins, BB, Spiderman) by a wide margin in terms of viewer numbers so far to the extent that it seems that the latter arguably underperformed. But that is not a sign of quality, and it's December and Poppins might have better legs in the long run.

I'm interested in what Bumblebee does in China when it opens on Jan. 4th. It seems they loved the clobber porn of big robots of the other Transformers, so how will they react to a more "subtle" action. That's not the right way to put it, but you know what I mean.

That's not the right way to put it, but you know what I mean. yes, I am anticipating worse than in the US. The Chinese seem to love their clobber orgies, this is not a orgy but a soft porn. Also, they do not like Western SJW-isms (they have a special word for that) and - allegedly - they do not like dark-skinned people especially in romance with fair skinned ones (Star wars in China reduced Finn's image from the poster for that, it did not help them much; Bumblebee poster does not even show the black kid lead, I wonder why) .
