A wondrous film that is filled with so much heart and charm. Say what you will about things being dated, but it was the 70s, mind yourself. Also, welcome back, James Bond!

The first epic superhero movie and progenitor of all the great ones to come. Takes its subject matter seriously from the get-go, yet never afraid to show a more lighthearted side either. Reeves and Hackman were perfect. Still my second favourite Superman movie.

A rather shaky start though. There wasn't another commercially succesful superhero film until 10 years after it (Batman 89), and any super hero film that wasn't Batman related didn't too well in the 90s (it was the first Xmen film that finally opened up the commercial potential for super hero films)

It wasn't until 1989, yet its development chatter was much earlier than I'd ever known. Superman is my #29 all time, only TDK right behind #30 as CBM in my top 50. It really is a fine film, never mind merely its CBM genre significance. The Smallville stuff is my fav stretch.

It's one of my favorite superhero films ever, in which I had the pleasure of re-watching a few months ago. Happy 40th anniversary.

The SFX still hold up really well and even look better and more real than the CGI ones.
Just a little tip. If you are driving along a road and telephone poles are falling down, just stop and let them fall and wait out the shakes.
