I've always said that even the worst MCU movies are still highly enjoyable flicks. So if Aquaman is able to stay in the 70's that's good enough for me. 70% as an mcu movie that is low 90s..right?
outside of wonder woman which I have no problem admitting the female aspect helped. funny since mcu fans cant even admit the clear obvious of black panther
Dude, this is a thread about Aquaman. Why are we talking about Black Panther??

Grace says that it's better than Wonder Woman. How you can listen to that woman speak and not want to find a gun and a bell tower I'll never know.

Grace says that it's better than Wonder Woman. my first impression of the film and her review are in line 95% down to the musical evaluation (a lot more that the majority of the sloppy, rushed reviews I read on RT). But this is teh point where I fundamentally disagree with Randolf. "Better" is subjective. And better how?
Better/grander action set pieces? Check Better cinematography and photography? Check Visual imagination/world building? Check Dumb fun/more entertaining? Check
But:
Narrative substance? Romantic relationship/chemestry? Message & arcs?
That is all in WW's yard, which remains the better DCEU film overall (IMO).

Sounds like a decent installment then. Pity on the message & and arcs, WW was indeed pretty good in that arena. But it will be nice to see something fun.

Grace says that it's better than Wonder Woman. She’s kind of a card carrying member of the looney bin. She makes personal attacks on Jessica Chastain of all people in her review videos, and makes really bizarre comments like how Star Wars’ biggest problem is alienating white heterosexual males and when she called out other YouTubers for getting paid off for their reviews because they didn’t have the same opinion as her. Having said that, she also has really peculiar justifications and opinions on what makes a movie good or not... but she is consistent. And for that it’s always interesting to see what she has to say. As for the review, She does make anti-feminism comments at times so it’s no surprise that she doesn’t hold Wonder Woman on a particularly high standard.

I’ve been reading the reviews, and… While I wasn’t raring to see this, I was willing to be persuaded if the reviews were good. And, I mean, they are, but they’re not exactly fantastic. They actually rather remind me of the reviews for Justice League, which I couldn’t stand. And many of the compare it to Thor, which I also disliked, so I think ultimately it just doesn’t seem like my, er, um, kettle of fish. I thought Kyle Smith’s pan here was hilarious, though.

It is nothing like Justice League or Thor, quite the contrary. Describing it as the male equivalent to Wonder Woman, dumber yet more entertaining and adventure orientated, would make some sense.

Really? Most reviews I’ve read do compare it to Justice League, Thor, and mid-level Marvel movies (which, despite the label on the former, are pretty much what those are). I liked Momoa well enough in Justice League–in fact, I liked the whole team, I just thought the movie was dreadful–but I’m not exactly a fan of the character, and reading those comparisons turned me off.

Everybody seems to compare it to different films, says it all IMO. But I really do not know where these nonsensical comparisons come from. JL is an ensemble movie and completely different. Thor is the old tale of an arrogant God getting banned and finding redemption through love. Aquaman is about a simple guy who rejects his royal heritage but in order to save his world he must confront and accept it by going on teh classic hero's journey (including mentor, item etc). If you want to compare Aqua to a movie you do not like better take Man of Steel: there are structural similarities with the legacy arc, story and flashbacks. But Aqua is an light-hearted action fairy tale with an emphasis on surreal world building.

Hell, I liked MoS and if it's like that plus from what I read, there's laser sharks and octopus drummers, count me in.

I feel like this would have 5% or even 10% more likes (fresh) on RT if the previous films were all received well, or rather, weren't received exceptionally poorly with a reputation to match. I mean, Bayformers doesn't get raves but the fans just seem to shrug and laugh it off unlike the DC warzone. Films aren't received in a vacuum, like how Wonder Woman's reception (and Black Panther's) was inflated by the current political mood. How long until WB can shake the negative effects off?

So is the music used in the trailer actually from the film. Sounds pretty good. Not intending to see the film in the next couple of weeks or so, but might see if I can track down the score.

Currently dropped to 71% RT. Any chance of it not being "Fresh"?

Currently dropped to 71% RT. Any chance of it not being "Fresh"? Only 100 reviews, which means almost half are in. So there's a chance, but I kinda doubt it. What's really shocking is that Mary Poppins is at 76%. After I've been lead to believe it's the most magical film ever made. Maybe it's not... It isn't wise to trust the early OTT hype on any of the bigger studio movies these days.

Maybe it's not... Yeah I saw that. I figured with the marketing which has been pretty good, it'd score like mid eighties. Minimum.

For those who remember him, Aquaman has Wellibers aka Iron Panther aka Carrot’s seal of approval. He saw it today.
