It was very sad, but the good news is SOD said he's already back filming, so we'll see him again in 2019. Maybe he will bring back teenage Allie.

I'm hopeful that we'll get meaningful Lucas scenes in 2019, but I can't help but suspect he's simply back for a perfunctory weeklong visit for Caroline's funeral like Sami, Belle, Shawn, Carrie and Abby seem to be. He'll probably attend the funeral, touch base with Will and Kate, have some Horton-y interactions, have a scene or two with Sami, and then be on his way.

It's a shame they just never seem to know what to do with Lucas; it just doesn't make sense. I feel like Lucas personifies what is inherently wrong with Days. They don't know what stories are actually worth telling; and even when they try to tell a story that should be a no brainer and really work well, they still somehow manage to fuck it up. Just look at Lucas going off the wagon right before Will came back; they didn't give Lucas enough attention to flesh out that story, and what we did see bordered on cartoonish, with him stumbling around drinking wine or something straight from the bottle, in a brown paper bag. There's never any subtlety.
What I've thought the show should do for a long time is re-centralize the show's focus on the Horton family, by bringing Bill back to town, along with Mike and bring the dynamic of Bill and his children, Mike, Jen and Lucas (and their children, etc.) to the foreground. There would still be room to continue including all of the other related and ancillary characters, but it would take the show back to it's roots and provide a sharper focus to the stories being told. The only real down side is that I would prefer that Lucas be with Sami in this scenario; which isn't likely to be feasible any time soon....

I agree the focus really should be on the Bradys and Hortons with everyone else as foil.
I'm glad to hear Bryan is coming back, hadn't heard that yet.
Do we have any details about the funeral for Caroline??

Do we have any details about the funeral for Caroline?? Only that it appears Bryan Dattilo, Alison Sweeney, Christie Clark, Martha Madison, Brandon Beemer and Kate Mansi all came back to shoot scenes for it. Based on the shooting schedules, it should be in June. Nothing on some other names that should be there: Patsy Pease, Charles Shaughnessy, Jen Lilley, Darin Brooks, Billy Warlock, Rachel Melvin, Shelley Hennig, etc. Some of them are probably longshots, but I don't see why they couldn't at least get Patsy and Billy. I mean, they're bringing Abigail back for it and she's not even a Brady. The one I would really like to see is Peter Reckell. Some ghostly appearance to let Hope that Caroline's with him, Pop and Zack now. With Rex back by the time they're filming this, I'd also like them to bring Alexis Thorpe back to touch base as Cassie.
