Great actor, I thought he was great at Commodus in Fall of the Roman Empire.
A lesser known film of his was "Nobody Runs Forever/The High Commissioner" from 1968. Rod Taylor also stars. Plummer plays the role of the high commissioner involved in some peace talks. Interesting Cold War era spy film that also has a luscious Daliah Lavi. I recommend it.
He also narrated one of the better Bible films, The Gospel of John. It was very well done and was a "word for word" translation of that particular Gospel. Plummer has such a soothing yet commanding voice as the narrator.

Plummer and Robert Ryan are the 2 actors I appreciate more and more with each passing year. Love 'em both.

TRIPLE CROSS is another interesting part. THE ROYAL HUNT OF THE SUN (though he's dubbed).
And of course STARCRASH
"Imperial battleship! Halt the flow of time!"
Plummer said of the filming, "Give me Rome any day. I'll do porno in Rome, as long as I can get to Rome. Getting to Rome was the greatest thing that happened in that for me. I think it was only about three days in Rome on that one. It was all shot at once". Discussing his role as the Emperor, he said, "How can you play the Emperor of The Universe? What a wonderful part to play. It puts God in a very dicey moment, doesn't it? He's very insecure, God, when the Emperor’s around".

I saw The High Commissioner on the big screen and have barely heard of it since - is that really 50 years ago?

One of my favourites. Such a commanding voice! His track record with the Academy is quite bizarre and one which I suspect may never be matched. A prolific actor and star for decades, finally receives a long-overdue first Oscar nomination in his eighties - then follows it up with two more in relatively quick succession, including that win for his lovely work in Beginners. I always enjoy Plummer but my personal favourite performances include: - The Man Who Would Be King **simply wonderful as Kipling.
- The Insider **a film-stealing role that really should have been an Oscar bid.
- Nicholas Nickleby
- The Silent Partner
- The New World
At 89 he shows no signs of slowing down!

In "Knives Out" Plummer plays younger as a spry youth celebrating his 85th birthday.
That sure sounds like it should be him singing Edelweiss but the voice belongs to a behind the scenes crooner named Bill Lee.
His name in a film's cast always makes me take notice of it.

My favorite performances of his are as the villain in Dragnet(1987) and the Shakespeare quoting Klingon in Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country

Excellent actor! And Dick Van Dyke's birthday as well at 94! And by "accident" they both starred with Jullie Andrews in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, while most of her co-stars is gone bu now.

I'll heartily second THE SILENT PARTNER - an inventive, exciting , well out of the rut thriller. EDIT - and quite festive too... Agree with comment about his screen presence/accessibility..... although Lords knows TSOM was a heavy cross to bear for him.
