It's been a year since "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has been released. Even though it hasn't been long since it came out, we know the movie has been disliked by many Star Wars fans even though it was critically acclaimed. Have any of you watched it in recent times and didn't think it was as bad as people have made it out to be? Looking back on the movie now, can any of you see the strengths of the film in addition to the weaknesses? Have any of you had a complete change of heart about the film?

I still quite enjoy certain parts, and can’t stand to watch other whole subplots. That said, I’ll still see IX, and I appreciate XIII for providing us with one of the greatest moments in all of Star Wars:

good cinematography and acting
alright directing, cgi
bad script, awful jokes, force skype, rose & finn, purple hair lady, light speed kamikaze
the prequels are a better watch, they may not be great, but i appreciate them a lot more now

4/10 Disappointing as hell and easily the worst Star Wars film. Some good bits in the film but destroying the character of Luke Skywalker is unforgivable. Plus putting worthless annoying new characters like Rose and Holdo just made it even worse.

5/10 for me now, which is up from a 4 the first time I saw it.
If you take out the Rose and Holdo stuff and give Luke a better sendoff then it’s at least a 7/10, maybe better. But I can’t overlook how awful the bad stuff was.

One area I will defend the film is the characterization of Luke. Now I won't say I would have portrayed him this way if I were making the film, but I don't think having him be the way he is in the film is bad.
It's not impossible for a person or character to be a certain way for years and then be profoundly impacted by an event and have a complete change in personality. It has happened to people who have gone to war for example. Stuff like this shows that a character or person is human in the end and also gives them a psychological challenge to overcome. It shows no matter who they are, how they are, how strong they are, how much of a do-gooder they are, etc., they can have their spirit broken just like the rest of us. It wouldn't have been as narratively compelling if Luke was the same old Luke like in the previous films. I know we would have liked that, but it makes more sense dramatically to have him be changed by age, a profound event like Kylo Ren growing powerful and turning on Luke, etc. At least Rian Johnson gives us an explanation for why Luke is the way he is and doesn't just have him be disillusioned, cynical, etc. out of nowhere for nothing.

Still haven't seen it. Listening to Rian Johnson's retarded laugh in interviews was enough to dissuade me from ever wanting to see it.
I think Luke turning into a feeb was in the stars back in 1980.
After he blows up the AT-AT and goes to Yoda, he starts to become a moody jerk.
He spends much of ROTJ in a bummed out state, then ends off looking depressed until he sees the ghosts. If he hadn't seen the ghost then what? Why did he even need ghosts to cheer him up? People were expecting him to be more like Alec Guinness but even he ended up a failure--sitting on the log in ROTJ, revealing he sucked as a teacher.
The prequels are about his failure and Anakin's. So I strongly suspect a Lucas-made sequel series would have had the same stuff--and Han as a bad father (since they introduced that into the Indiana Jones films as well). Can't escape the liberal DNA.

I still like it quite a lot and think the haters are, for the most part, knuckle-dragging morons. Loved the way Rian Johnson deliberately went out of his way to zig when fans expected and wanted him to zag. Sure, that's partly what got him in trouble, but despite the dollops of juvenile humor I think the arc of Luke and Rey's journey makes this one of the more mature movies in the series.
It certainly isn't without its flaws--I get the point of the failed mission to the gambling planet, but the execution was so boring I'll always skip by those scenes, and that is unfortunately a good chunk of the movie. And there are some other things that annoy me, but despite them all, it is an 8/10 for me, on the strength of all the scenes with Ren, Rey, and Luke.

I watched it again on Netflix and am still think it looks phenomenal.
While I was never a fan of the basic escape story which is too trite, just about everything else involving dialogue and set pieces are fantastic. Will likely watch again soon.
Force Awakens is on TNT tomorrow so maybe I'll do a double feature.

I couldn't believe Rian Johnson out did Jar Jar Abrams here but he managed to make an even worse film than The Force Awakens lol. Seriously, the Last Jedi sucked so much and I kinda felt bad for Mark Hamill (the build up to see him play Luke again & wielding a light saber sounded great but he went out with a whimper .)
IMO Disney has totally botched Star Wars in every way . The new characters are just shit (Kylo, Rose , Poe , Finn & of course Reeeeeeeeey!!!) .
TFA 5/10 TLJ 4/10

I Keep Saying It!
After DISNEY first bought the "STAR WARS" Franchise from George Lucas, They should have immediately released a statement saying that when it comes to what happens in the "STAR WARS" Movies that they will be making, The Fans have ZERO Say (and I would agree that that would be the Right Decision, if the Fans were given a Say then it would be DISASTROUS for the Franchise, many of the Fans don't even have good ideas, just ideas that involve what they themselves want to see in a "STAR WARS" Movie).
But they didn't do that and as a result, A Majority of "STAR WARS" Fans now feel they have the right (which nobody gave to them, not even George Lucas) to tell DISNEY what they can and cannot do with their "STAR WARS" Movies.

I’ve only seen it once so far, on Netflix. I liked it but I can see why fans are upset. I’m just not as passionate about it as the longtime SW fans.
