In every movie or TV western I've ever seen, there was never a Native American man with facial hair.
So...how did they do it? I sincerely doubt that they had razors and shaving soap available.
Was there something in their genetic makeup that prevented them from growing facial hair?
I realize that this is a petty issue, but I'm quite curious.

Sharp stones maybe, and maybe bone leftovers from meat they eat

Aj...it must have hurt to have to pluck facial hair one-by-one. It may have even drawn some blood.
Ancient Egyptians, men and women, shaved their entire bodies to prevent lice infestation, which apparently was epidemic in those times. Makes me wonder how the Hebrews who lived there in the Book of Exodus managed this problem.
It's nothing short of disgusting that Europeans believed than clean male faces were signs of inferiority and homosexuality. But, considering such men as Cortez and Pizzaro, it's probably not surprising. BTW, most of the pictures I've seen of Columbus show him to be clean shaven. Where did he have the gall to have made such a statement?

You might want to change the thread title.

I always thought native Americans shaved their face with sea shells.
And many "east" Indians allow their beards to grow quite long.

And many "east" Indians allow their beards to grow quite long. Most Native Americans lived well inland, far from any source of sea shells. So they must have had other means of removing facial hair--if they had any.

...and FYI, what I mean by "east" Indians are those natives of India. Sikh's etc.
Native Americans used sea shells, or something resembling the blade like quality of a sea shell to remove facial hair. Inland native Americans were a very innovative people.

I know you did, koskie. But most Sikh men I've seen had full beards and 'staches. BTW, there was a news story a number of years ago about a young boy in New Zealand being struck by a truck and suffering a head injury. Well, a Sikh man on the scene actually removed his turban to use as a cushion for the boy's head until the ambulance arrived. As most people know, it is unconditionally forbidden for Sikh men to remove their turbans in public. But this brave man put human decency above religious dogma. I hope he wasn't severely punished by his elders.

Found this: "The ancestry of Native Americans is similar to Asians. These races don’t have thick hair growth on their faces and bodies. In the old days, Native Americans used to pluck out even the sparse hair they had on their faces. Such was the tradition" "Not all Native Americans had problems growing beards and mustaches. There were several Navajo tribe leaders during the Long Walk era who sported hair on their upper lips." Native American's beards , though not sure if that sight is serious.

Asian men probably didn't develop much facial or body hair, except for sharp pointed goatees or "Fu Manchu" mustaches. And Charlie Chan sported a small 'stache, too.

I think it was only Fred Flintstone who shaved with a seashell.

That might explain Fred's (and Barney's) perpetual 5:00 shadows.
