B+ I think its legacy would breathe easier had it not been hyped as Leo's ticket to Oscartown. Hardy was the ace for me, having to carry while Leo was frozen.

Style over substance. About the first 30 minutes are visually arresting, after that even the cinematography becomes a bit monotonous. Di Caprio did a convincing job physically, but I didn't care the slightest bit for his character. In the bear scene I was more concerned about the bear's well-being than about Leo's.

5/10 Not a big Hardy fan but he stole the show. DiCaprio as an 1820 Mountain Man? A bridge too far in suspension of disbelief. He's had a dozen better performances. Oscar winning cinematography? They're kidding.
