Who is asking for a sequel to Backdraft?

Why bother to make a sequel after 28 years? Was the first film really that successful? Is this going to be a direct-to-DVD effort?

A little surprised to seeing Donald Sutherland involved in a direct-to-DVD effort. But then again, if he's willing to do a film like Virus...….

Straight to dvd? Then no Hans Zimmer likely. Ugh I wouldn't want hans Zimmer to waste a score on a movie I have zero interest in. I am actually a big fan of Backdraft (1991), but a sequel makes no sense, especially since Kurt Russell is by far the most interesting character in the original movie. The plot says it is about Kurt Russell's character's son blaming William Baldwin for his father's death, but in the original movie the kid barely has a relationship with his father and has absolutely no reason to blame Baldwin's character for it.
