That's the smartest decision Warner Brothers made so far with the DCEU. What took them so long?

He will be conspicuous by his absence (and the absence of his influence) in future MCU projects.

Whedon is far more successful in converting comicbook characters into movies and making them breathe and live. I'd take him over Snyder any day.

Who said anything about Zack Snyder? I just don't like the idea of getting an MCU director for a DC film. Besides, Whedon already gained a certain degree of controversy for how Black Widow was handled in AoU. Still, I suppose it can't be any worse than this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LasNbCddsmA. Seriously, fuck that movie.

I love how some of the replies here seem to be under the impression that Marvel needs Whedon when he's been out of the picture for a while now. Newsflash: he's served his purpose and Marvel has moved on from needing him. Batgirl will be the only good DCEU film ever made, though.

You're getting soft in your old age, sir.

Any little mistake in the direction taken with the character will be under especially heavy scrutiny because of it. As much as I can't stand this stupid misconception that there's a difference between male and female directors (which completely goes against the ideals of gender equality), they're better off not taking the risk by having a man direct a Batgirl movie.

For starters, we don't need a Batgirl movie. She's a supporting character. I don't think she's really interesting enough to carry her own film. Same goes for Nightwing. Second, getting the guy who's directed the two highest grossing films of the MCU thus far, just seems really uninspired.

I think WB wants to make a good movie for once. That's why they got Whedon.

I think Whedon's more than proved his feminist credentials, though, right? I mean, he is responsible for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and has generally endorsed works that espouse tolerant views on social issues. He's also got an impeccable resume (well, in recent history) when it comes to super hero stuff. I think he'll do a good job on the Batgirl movie and that, if not, it won't be because of his gender.
