I was wondering if every calendar year in Days' history (or at least since 1981, when 'modern' Days sort of began) had at least one epic or significant arrival and ended up making this list of each year's biggest casting arrival (plus some runners-up). It was cool to put together, so thought I'd share. I didn't include any returns, just people appearing for the first time. Let me know if you disagree with my choice for the biggest of each year.
James Reynolds (Runners-Up: Thaao Penghlis and Wayne Northrop)
 Joseph Mascolo (Runner-Up: Leann Hunley)
Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso (Runner-Up: Lisa Trusel) [Choosing one of Peter or Kristian over the other felt silly)
 Patsy Pease (Runner-Up: Charles Shaughnessy)
Melissa Reeves (Runners-Up: Stephen Nichols and John Aniston)
Drake Hogestyn (Runners-Up: Mary Beth Evans, Christie Clark, Billy Warlock and Judi Evans)
Matthew Ashford (Runner-Up: Wally Kurth and Charlotte Ross)
...Billy Hufsey? This was an unremarkable year, casting-wise.
 Staci Greason (Runner-Up: Judith Chapman)
 Crystal Chappell (Runner-Up: Michael Sabatino)
...Michael Easton? Another unremarkable year, the biggest castings of this year were Deidre and Wayne returning.
Lisa Rinna (Runners-Up: Patrick Muldoon, Louise Sorel and Robert Kelker-Kelly)
Alison Sweeney (Runners-Up: Bryan Dattilo, Renee Jones, Eileen Davidson, Jaime-Lynn Bauer and Jason Brooks)
Roark Critchlow (Runners-Up: Tanya Boyd and Mark Valley)
Austin Peck (Runner-Up... Stephanie Cameron, I guess)
 Lauren Koslow (Runner-Up: Krista Allen)
Josh Taylor [as Roman] (Runner-Up: Jensen Ackles)
Arianne Zucker (Runners-Up: Kevin Spirtas, Patrika Darbo and Julianne Morris)
Nadia Bjorlin (Runners-Up: Jason Cook, Jay Johnson, Kirsten Storms, Farah Fath and Matt Cedeno) [1999 was anyone's game between Nadia, Jason, Jay, Farah and Kirsten but I gave it to Nadia because of longevity)
Kyle Lowder (literally the only non-return arrival this year, but he's noteworthy)
...Justin Melvey? Another slow year for new arrivals.
Eric Winter (Runner-Up: Alexis Thorpe) [This era is so dominated by the characters introduced in 1999 that they don't seem to bother introducing new characters]
Judi Evans [as Bonnie] (Runner-Up: Kyle Brandt) [Not a lot of arrivals this year, they were too busy killing everyone off]
Martha Madison (Runners-Up: Julie Pinson and Ashley Benson)
 Rachel Melvin (Runner-Up: Darin Brooks)
James Scott (Runners-Up: Brandon Beemer and Blake Berris)
Shelley Hennig [She's pretty much it unless Kristen Renton or Trevor Donovan rang your chimes]
Eric Martsolf (Runners-Up: Galen Gering, Molly Burnett and Shawn Christian)
Casey Jon Deidrick (Runners-Up: Mark Hapka and Lindsay Hartley) [another non-crazy year, we'll get more and more of those]
 Chandler Massey (Runner-Up: Camila Banus)
 Kate Mansi (Runner-Up: Freddie Smith)
 Greg Vaughan [No real runner-up]
Casey Moss (Runners-Up: Jen Lilley and Chrishell Stause)
Billy Flynn (Runners-Up: Robert Scott Wilson, Christopher Sean and Kassie DePaiva)
Olivia Rose Keegan (Runners-Up: Paul Telfer, Sal Stowers and Kyler Pettis)
Vincent Irizzarry, unfortunately (Runner-Up: Marci Miller)
Victoria Konefal (Runners-Up: Lamon Archey and Tyler Christopher)
Obviously with some of these newer years it's a little premature to know what the biggest casting of the year will be. It's funny how packed some years are and how lights others are. Kirsten Storms is maybe the 5th biggest casting of 1999 and she'd have won a lot of these years. Eileen Davidson is like the fourth most important cast member to join in 1993.
