This will be our last superhero fight scene match. In this match, it will be a threeway competition between the winners of the brawl, fodder and 1v1 supehero fight tournaments. You can only pick one, choose wisely. Which is the best overall fight scene in a superhero movie?
Captain America vs. Winter Soldier: Highway fight (The Winter Soldier)
vs.
Avengers vs. Chitauri (Avengers)
vs.
Avengers Airport fight (Civil War)

I nearly went for the airport fight, but if I’m being honest, the Chitauri fight is pretty much the definitive final fight in CBM history. It’s freaking legendary. If I had to rank all 3 of these spectacular fights, it would go:
Chitauri > Airport > Bucky
All are tightly close to each other.

I nearly went for the airport fight, but if I’m being honest, the Chitauri fight is pretty much the definitive final fight in CBM history. It’s freaking legendary. If I had to rank all 3 of these spectacular fights, it would go: Chitauri > Airport > Bucky All are tightly close to each other. I'd probably agree. The airport is heavy on the superhero v superhero, but I'd probably put the Chitauri fight as one of the most important fights in the series. The initial coming together of them all.
In a way, that fight for the Avengers coming together what the airport fight was in the Avengers falling apart. It was the definitive fight with the world hanging in the balance...that they won.
Even though the airport fight was fairly even, it was a given that some heroes would pair with each other in the fight. Cap an Iron Man would go at it, but probably most importantly, Vision and Scarlet Witch are each other's only equals. It's not like Vision is going to fist-fight it out with Falcon, or Captain America and Black Widow are going to trade punches. It was definitely a fight, but they had to be a little conservative about who they fought and how hard they hit each other.
Avengers v Chitauri - no holding back, no pulling punches, no ambiguity over who'll turn; just straight-up one-sided violence with the planet at stake.

I have to give it to the airport fight. The kind of choreography and thinking that went into that is incredible. To be able to get that many superpowered beings fighting each other in a cohesive scene where each one still gets to display their individual powers... it's unprecendented. As good as the other two contenders here are they're nowhere near as difficult to pull off as the airport scene.

If you are really being honest, the highway fight is not just the best one, but BY FAR the best one. It is the best action scene in any CBM ever made. The chorography is excellent and that is probably the most important part of a fight scene. The airport fight looked cool, but there were no stakes. The Avengers fight was great, but that was mostly because we got to see all of our heroes fighting together for the first time. We have seen it many times since and the highway fight is just plain cooler.

Has to be Avengers/Chitauri. The entire battle goes on for quite a while and all the heroes get a chance to strut their stuff. It features the iconic 'coming together' scene, the tracking shot, several multi-hero combo attacks and a few holy $#^@ moments like the Hulk one-shotting a space whale.

Plus! The NY Battle has that sweet oaky afterbirth  I think the airport battle is at least equal in terms of geekgasms, but it’s more hollow, if that makes sense. |
