It used to be that is board's dumbest arguments were of the fundamentalist kind: People like Quyst arguing about the evils of homosexuality and science and a 6,000 year old earth. Now, it seems dumbest arguments are of the atheistic kind: "God is exactly like Santa Claus: We can't prove that He doesn't exist... but we know He doesn't exist... and He raped Mary" "You have no evidence to support your faith... and, you aren't allowed to have evidence to support your faith."
Atheists... Ya gotta get your shit together. There are tons of reasons not to believe in God. Seriously, you're making the rest of us look bad.

Yep, the shark has be jumped.
However it’s largely just a couple of posters so it’s more like the atheist ranks have been diluted.
This board needs a marketing campaign.

what if the evidence for a spirit entity were presented to the universe right here on this forum.
imagine the centerfold pull-out photo of the discoverer . . .
on second thought let's not and just say we did.

I think Santa starts showing up on the 3rd page. & Theists, you only have TWO arguments: PICK ONE!
It's what the OP is about.

Here are some "smarter" atheists by my measures.
Many people who regularly attend religious services are atheists. You knew that much already, I'm sure. They attend for perhaps the wrong reasons, perhaps wrong at the time anyway. They go for the same reasons people attend sports or theater, just to interact with some community or other. Whether or not snakes can talk, people can and have a driving urge to talk to others. Religious services really are best for that.
Although they are just "following the herd," that isn't always a bad thing. If you're on an ocean liner and people are piling into the life boats, following that "herd" into the life boats might be the best decision you ever make.
The very smartest of the smart atheists, as I have mentioned before, are those who would develop a set of "commandments" much like the Ten commandments, just without the requirement for a god. As I also have already mentioned, it has not worked so well and I have explained this is likely the result of having no enforcement mechanism, near of far. There's nothing special to instill circumspection into the masses.

i need no god to comfort me
i could not wait till death nil came, to reassess if life is vain.
for i was once a man of thought, who listened boldly with my heart.
to friend and strangers vast discourse, i plotted out my sinners’ course. against the instincts of those men whose rhetoric was to incense:
my primal urge to just be me. to swim against this moral sea. this current of divine retort, i swam until i reached this port.
that harbored me in my own light, of reason and of knowing right. that all i've said and all i've done is righteous in itself i've come to know the tenderness of men divined by seeking out a friend.
who found his harbor next to me, a ship of fools we'll set to sea. and watch the gods of other worlds who sit and spin their chiseled words, upon the fickle and forlorn, whimpering to be reborn.
i need no god to comfort me, adrift upon my sinner's sea. as friend reached out and grabbed an oar as gods did wave from safety's shore. we did not look to say farewell, we sailed our ship right through their hell!
and let the winds of time decide who would be captain who would ride the crest of each and every wave was everest or sailors’ grave!
i would not know a god like him, a man who resonates like wind. who shares the bounty of his heart, is god enough for me to start. this whittling of my poet's knife to friendship i am wed for life.
if vain my life turns out to be: at least i lived inside his sea.
