Now that Aquaman has been released, I figured it was about time to ask this question. The franchise obviously hasn’t had a good track record with villains, but how would you rank them in terms of best to worst? Keep in mind that this is referring specifically to the main villains for each of these movies, so characters like Faora and Black Manta don’t count.
I suppose my ranking is as follows:
1. Orm
2. Zod
3. Ares
4. Lex Luthor
5. Steppenwolf
6. Enchantress

I loved how they did Black Manta. Good to see a black guy villain. He will rock the next films.

Steppenwolf 6. Enchantress I loved how they did Black Manta. Good to see a black guy villain. He will rock the next films. I think Wonder Woman’s ultimate acceptance of the nature of man implies it was more her misguided myopathy which was in the wrong. She didn’t necessarily change man, but man did change her. I’d almost put that German dude as the central villain of the story. He was the Vader to the rarely seen Palpatine. Technically greater forces were at play, but the struggle in the movie was more directly from Danny Huston. Even if he was a double fake for someone else, they were still chasing HIS crimes, not Ares’s. But yeah, Zod is tops so far. Orm worked with limited screen time because they say “emancipated brother is at odds” and everyone immodestly understands his trope by knowing who Aquaman is. And I mean that in a very positive way, they knew it would click as soon as he was explained, exposition unnecessary. Even when they they have the throwaway line about him betrothing Mera, they didn’t build it up or go into it, because it immediately clicked for everyone watching. This is exactly how you use a trope properly. |

So that's five MCU movies in a row I've seen where they've had a good villain. I don't know how Ghost is from the new Ant-man, I've heard nothing about that character (or the movie) so that one probably won't be up to much but 5/6 is good. |

At their current status, I'd say only half of the MCU villains at the moment can be considered low quality. Maybe even less that if we only consider major villains. |

This is why I'd wish it if Darkseid (if we ever see that gravelly faced fool in this series) was played by a live actor in makeup and prosthetics. Maybe like get Ian Whyte (GoT) to play the physical role then an actor like Liam Neeson or Charles Dance provide his voice. The DCEU already won an oscar for its makeup. Put it to work! |

Well if we're including side villains then Faora is the best. How about Batman in BvS? Being serious, should be considered for his antagonistic subplot. |

The only exception that comes to mind is Thanos. Therr are of course bad live action monster villains like malketh and apocalypse but CGI villains have a worser track record. |

It won't work if you want him to keep up with the action scenes. There's a reason why the Thor vs. Kurse fight didn't have any complex choreography. |
