With the rumors that Avengers: Endgame might be a whopping three hours long, I figured I’d ask this question.

It's about thirty minutes worse.

Like with mos I did not like bvs at first, but then bought the br when people commented how great the directors cut was. And this one I really appreciated as one of the most interesting cbm after Nolan. Never watched the original cut again.
First time I must totally have missed the philosophical themes, especially the god is dead arc. Or it’s only in the director cut. But I guess it’s likely I just was just too thick the first time around.
Mea culpa. Great film. We will likely not getting a mature drama cbm anytime soon.

I don't give a flying fuck about Avengers. But 3 hour extended cuts are often superior for home theater use. I'm thinking of
- Abyss - Aliens/Alien3 - Amadeus - BvS - Blade Runner - Das Boot - Blood Simple - Leon - LotR - Kingdom of Heavens - Nymphomaniac - T2 - The Town - Watchmen
and some others I forget.

I only saw the extended version of BvS, and it was god awful. I can only imagine how bad the theatrical version was.

I can see why some would consider it to be worse on the count of how much longer it is, but I personally feel that if you’re gonna watch the movie, the extended cut is the proper way to do it.

Unfortunately, the extended cut is a bit of a double edge sword. It obviously fills in the gaps and "plot holes" of the theatrical cut, but only creates even more problems with the overall story that just don't make sense.

It does help clear up a lot of the weaker points of the movie, but it also makes the movie longer and even more dragging.

About the same. I never understood how more footage can make the movie better? The outcome will still be the same.

About the same. I never understood how more footage can make the movie better? The outcome will still be the same. In the case of BvS, I would say that the extended cut is better in the sense that the editing is a little more cohesive, the plot is slightly less confusing and Superman feels just a tiny bit more like an actual character. It obviously doesn’t address the bigger problems with the movie, but it feels more complete.

You probably missed the philosophical themes because Jesse Eisenberg paying lip service to Nietzsche doesn't equal a theme. And what are you talking about with the last line? Logan came out a year later. And got an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay. Helps that it was actually a mature drama and not a punch em up for edgelords.

Just give it up. That was a bit melodramatic. I meant with Aquaman and then Shazam gritty, thoughtful drama like BvS are dead (like God) in the DCEU. Drama like Logan are dead because of the Disney-MCU takeover. But whenever it gets hopelessly dark and kiddy there is shining light of DC hope: I overlooked that DC seems to have developed a two tier concept: Like next year, we get a family friendly DCEU comedy with Shazam. But also a gritty, psychological crime drama like Joker outside DCEU that might be Logan-esque. In DC we trust.

It rocks. This is a slow burn. A thinking man's superhero film. Some great themes and notions.

Oddly enough, I never actually saw the theatrical version. Just the extended cut.

God is dead arc? You probably missed the philosophical themes because Jesse Eisenberg paying lip service to Nietzsche doesn't equal a theme. And suffering form personal incredulity does not equal an proper argument. Just give it up. Well, neither do gifs with no context. Unless comparing Superman to God/Jesus automatically equals philosophy to you, in which case you must really love Superman Returns. Isn't the burden of proof on you, Mr Fallacy? You keep quoting "God is dead", yet I've read Thus Spoke Zarathrusta, and am not seeing the connection. Surely you know there's a little more to "God is dead" than a Christ metaphor getting impaled by a cave troll... And yes, I'm hoping for a smart movie from Joker indeed. Aquaman...ugh.
