Knight Rider David Hasselhoff and wisecracking car KITT. Played by William Daniels of St Elsewhere
As really love the action, comedy in it. Was 8 when the show was first made. Won't talk about the 2008 remake.
I loved it but still only thing I did not like about it. Devon really made Michael Knight did not have a life. As would had loved for him and Bonnie Barstow to had mutiny against Devon as Michael had to go to work over interrupted dates or vacations. If Wilton Knight was alive, Devon would had been overruled. IMHO, Devon got way too power hungry in the end. And it would have helped if Michael got some backup which he did not.
As really Devon needed to treat Michael like he was a human being and not just another employee. As really Michael needed to put his foot down.

I was wondering when somebody was going to mention this show.
I really liked the David Hasselhoff of this era. This was way before the guy was nothing but a stinking drunk. It was fun watching him kick ass and take names.
I had absolutely no idea that William Daniels was the voice for K.I.T.T. back then! When I was watching reruns of St. Elsewhere (1982 - 1988), I was shocked that the voice was none other than Dr. Mark Craig.
You're right, no need to mention that major disappointment NBC produced in 2008 - 2009.
I don't really see Devon the way that you do. He's the boss of the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG). It must be tough handling certain cases. It was never really about him. They killed him off in Knight Rider 2000 (1991) anyhow.
I loved Bonnie. She was the sexy nerd of the show. I never liked April. It seems like they needed eye candy, so they brought in Rebecca Holden. She's pretty much forgettable anyhow, seeing as she only appeared in about 21 episodes.
I have no opinion of RC3. The show was becoming too cluttered with supporting characters. It was supposed to be about a man in his car. It's like NBC needed a token black guy so they didn't look like a bunch of racists.
I feel bad that NBC didn't renew this show after the fourth season. They really stopped caring about it, so much so that they were airing certain episodes out of order. Even Hasselhoff himself mentioned that one of the episodes with his girlfriend on the beach was suppose to be the final one. Plus, making K.I.T.T. into a convertible was utterly stupid.
I really hope the movie is spectacular. They have to have the original cast. I won't see it if K.I.T.T. isn't a Trans Am. I just hope they don't keep dragging it out. Glen A. Larson passed away in 2014, and William Daniels is no spring chicken.
Overall, great series. I'll always have the memories of being a kid and painting my bike black with a picture of K.I.T.T. taped in the middle.

Yeah but still Michael needed a life. And could not get one. As really in a sense, Devon had no life whatsoever. Come to think of it. Michael needed to teach him a thing or two as life is not all about all work and no play.

My dream episode of Knight Rider would be to have Michael/KITT vs Garth/KARR.

William Daniels also guest starred in an episode of the TV Series, The Incredible Hulk, and I have to agree it is strange to hear K.I.T.T.'s voice coming out of a flesh and blood person.
In the early seasons, Devon was a bit bossy with Michael and did treat him more like an employee, which... he was... However, Michael also seemed to be a bit of a slacker and a loner too, who only wanted to have fun.
But I think, in the later seasons, Devon mellowed out and was more like a fatherly figure to Michael, and Michael had grown up a bit too and started to take the job more seriously, and showed he was more of a team player.
I'm not going to get into the Bonnie VS April debate, they both had pros and cons...
But, What I didn't like... was how Bonnie was just gone after the first season, and there was no mention about what happened to her. And when April left, the same thing happened. While I would have liked to have seen both of them receive a send off or something on screen, this bit about not even mentioning what happened to them, well that just wasn't right.
I always felt like Bonnie was more a mechanic, and April was head of research & development. When Bonnie came back, I had always hoped April might still be around to "guest star" from time to time, when K.I.T.T. needed a new gadget or was seriously damaged.
I did think Season 4 K.I.T.T. was too gimmicky. They went too far. I was wondering if in Season 5, he would fly...
RC3 wasn't bad, and I didn't mind seeing him in a couple of episodes, but I don't think he had anything to offer that was worthy of being in as many episodes that he was actually in.
When we last saw K.A.R.R. His CPU was intact and still alive. I had always hoped to see another K.A.R.R. story, but it never happened. I know that there was a fan fiction story written years ago that featured Garth Knight driving a rebuilt K.A.R.R. I'd like to think that is what the sequel would have been.
Knight Rider 2000 was not a bad TV Movie, but I hated what they did to K.I.T.T. Just prior to the movie.
It has been suggested, by many fans, that the CPU's for both K.A.R.R. & K.I.T.T. were artificial intelligence (A.I.)... perhaps even Artificial Lifeforms. And as far as we know, they are the only two AI beings that were ever created.
I always believed that K.I.T.T. was alive even when the TV Show ended.
So... how could anyone, especially Devon, just stick K.I.T.T. ... The only artificial life form in existence... in storage for all those years? K.I.T.T. was Devon's friend. At the very least, I would have removed the CPU, and used it to be the foundation's computer or something...
But No.
No wonder K.I.T.T. was pissed in the movie.
I am not sure where the idea, that a new movie is being made, is coming from...
But, don't count on having too many of the original cast back. And if they do come back, they probably won't be playing their original roles... And...
Don't expect K.I.T.T. to be a Trans Am. KITT is supposed to be state of the Art... Trans Ams are not being made anymore (Pontiac is Defunct), and they won't use a 35 year old car as the star.

I just thought that Devon and Michael needed to come to a trust. And really I do not blame Devon for being under pressure as originally thought. Like he was playing god in Michael's life and how Michael needed to have a life. And that Michael needed a break and that he was not a one man show. Despite having Kitt.
Devon failed at times to realize that. Michael should had threatened to quit at times. When Devon was pushing so much on him.

That was made very clear in the shows and TV movies. They were sentient computer lifeforms. They were not preprogrammed machines like today's cars that say your car door is open or even like Siri and Alexa, which are simply voice incarnations of search and task engines. KITT and KARR had their own thoughts and emotions and attitudes and had actual conversations with their drivers and other people. Like you even say, KITT was pissed in Knight Rider 2000. KITT was also sarcastic and cranky in the show and "2000." "I want custody of me," "That's for making me say 'ain't'," "You should have never brought me back," "This new body fits me like a glove," etc. KITT even had words with stray dogs that would get on his nerves. 4) By the time they make the Knight Rider movie, hopefully by the show's 40th anniversary next year or at least this decade, hopefully David Hasselhoff will still be around in his 70s and should return as Michael Knight, perhaps this time in Devon Miles' role and recruiting a new Knight Rider. Heck, The Hoff could at least still sit in the driver's seat and bs with KITT and not necessarily do hand-to-hand combat action scenes. However, if William Daniels is too old and doesn't sound like KITT anymore, they should get somebody who sounds like Daniels or would make a convincing new KITT in the spirit of the original KITT. But then again, it wouldn't be right for The Hoff to be bantering with a new KITT. Still, The Hoff should come back as Michael Knight as the new FLAG boss in charge of a new Knight Rider team.

Maybe he'd look something like this? I don't think KITT is supposed to be a gaudy, flashy sports car. He was a sleek, futuristic supercar as the 1980s Pontiac Trans Am he was based on itself was sleek and futuristic for its time and still is nearly 40 years later. But he definitely wasn't a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I truly appreciate your love and devotion to this show as it is one of my all-time favorites and was my favorite show of the 1980s. However, I think you're missing the point of the show and taking it too seriously, which actually were the problems with the later TV movies and TV shows, in addition to focusing on the sci-fi trimmings of the concept rather than on the human elements of the original. At its heart, the show was entertaining, cartoonish action fluff with a lot of humor. And the characters were all very lighthearted and worked well with each other and were like a well-adjusted and loving family. You're making the show seem very heavy-handed when it really wasn't. But again, I truly love your love of the show.

I remember KARR--and thinking, he sometimes sounded like Optimus Prime. I was disappointed with GOLIATH. I think the truck should have been given a voice too. I never saw any of the sequel series.
I recognized the KITT voice--it is weird to know the voice--I did think of William Daniels' face often when staring at the KITT display.
I recall some funny acting scenes with Garth and April but I preferred Bonnie.
I knew a guy in school who had lived in California and he saw a Knight Rider being filmed and said Hasslehoff's face was a bright orange from the makeup.

I guess Automan was an attempt to milk the idea a little more with Tron thrown in. Also a Glen A Larsen prodouction. He sure was busy.
There was another car show Stingray but that seemed to me to be a cheapo non-science fiction variation. I have not seen Knight Rider since the 80s and I am pretty sure I only saw the pilot once but it stuck in the memory that he was different-looking as a cop and then gets plastic surgery. At the time I guess I felt it was kind of like a horror movie element--having your face altered like that. And Richard Basehart I remembered well despite his limited involvement.

Garth was so villainous he didn't need an accompanying sentient vehicle. Just the brute, massive force of Goliath seemed itself a manifestation of Garth's villainy, which sufficed for both. If you never saw any of the sequel series, good for you and keep it that way. None of them add to the value of the original Knight Rider and in fact detract from it somewhat. If you must see at least one of them, I would suggest Team Knight Rider, because that was the closest in spirit to the original series and truly payed homage to the original series without defacing it.

You're right! Tron and Glen A. Larson! I'm not familiar with Stingray, but Viper was more in the tradition of Knight Rider, with a high-tech computerized car that could camouflage itself. You're right about the Knight Rider pilot. Michael Knight was originally undercover cop Michael Arthur Long, who was shot in the face, rescued by Wilton Knight's Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG), given a new face that looked like a young Wilton Knight and his only son Garth Knight (Michael Knight's "twin brother" also played by David Hasselhoff), renamed Michael Knight, and teamed up with KITT. Richard Basehart played the elder, dying Wilton Knight, who leaves FLAG in the charge of Devon Miles (Edward Mulhare).

James Wan is currently attached to the Knight Rider theatrical feature film as a producer, with video game writer T.J. Fixman working on the screenplay.
I'm glad Danny McBride seems to no longer be attached as the lead, which was simply the case because the previous producers thought his hair looked exactly like David Hasselhoff's.
After thinking about it for a while and assessing some of the new younger movie stars of the last decade, I think the best choice to play Michael Knight, or a new lead character under the supervision of the original Michael Knight, is Chris Hemsworth.
He actually looks like a younger David Hasselhoff from the original series.
Minus that big hair, of course.
But still.
(If for some reason Hasselhoff is not in the movie as the original Michael Knight, Liam Neeson should play Devon Miles to Chris Hemsworth's new Michael Knight. Even though Men in Black International fell far short of the original Men in Black movies, Neeson and Hemsworth had a natural dynamic that reminded me of Devon and Michael from the original Knight Rider. Plus they kind of look and sound like the original Devon and Michael -- Hemsworth kind of sounds like Hasselhoff when he does an American accent, and Neeson is even Irish just like Edward Mulhare.)

That's because Peter Cullen did the voice for both... Well, in one of the two KARR episodes. And KARR came first so I wouldn't have connected him to Optimus Prime until 1984. I would have been more likely to be thinking of Venger from Dungeons and Dragons.
Unaware as I was that Peter Cullen had already been known for doing the roars for the 1976 King Kong.
