When taken as a whole Australian deserts ar second only in size to the Sahara desert, but are generally separated into distinct geographical and ecological regions.
Best to worst:

Simpson desert - the worlds largest sand dune desert. It contains Dalhousie Springs, hot springs fed by the Great Artesian Basin, the worlds largest and deepest artesian basin.

Tanami desert in Northern Territory contains several indigenous communities.

To the north is the Wolf Creek crater, formed by a 50,000 tonne meteorite perhaps 300,000 years ago.

Great Victoria desert, the largest desert in Australia was the site of nuclear weapons testing for UK in the 1950s.

Gibson desert in Western Australia. In 1984 in a drought a group of Pintubi people made contact with white people for the first time.

Sturt Stony desert, largely covered by gibber (sandstone pebbles).

All those can be bad or fine - if made with the right ingredients.


I'd really like a good Crème Brulee - but You have to search for someone who knows what he does and uses real vanilla for the creme!


Surprisingly simple but marvellous:

Vanilla Ice with HOT raspberries (a sauce containing real raspberries - nothing else)
put on it - and again - it has to be a GOOD vanilla ice with real vanilla in it.


and one of the most surprising dessert experiences I had had been in an Austrian restaurant in Frankfurt/Main:

Two balls of Vanilla Ice (again - only the good one counts) with surprise! some Styrian pumpkin seed oil put on it! This oil is dark greenish and has a super fine taste that rounds up the Ice fantastically. The oil is mostly sold in little bottles bc it should be used quickly.



the moment at 00:10! (personally I'd put the cream aside, the ice and the oil together is already enough and the taste is more intense)

Oh - and I die for a really good Zabaione - again - this can be a big fail or a marvellous experience - the outcome is dependent on the ingredients: FRESH eggs and a GOOD wine (Marsala!) (and perhaps a little vanilla ice in the luke warm creme with some cocoa powder on it as finish.



Apple Pies: there are many variations but the best one is "gedeckter Apfelkuchen"





We Europeans are food aristocrats who are bored by name dropping lists ...
