I didn't know that. (I've never gamed at all. I know the refresh rate affects my musical software, though).

LOL. Yea, I do all my pc stuff on either a 55 inch or 65. The only time I ever sit in front of a monitor is mi iMac......and that's because? iMac will only 'mirror' the image. It won't just 'project' to a separate monitor.

They'd be great for first-person shooters since a wide field of view is vital in multiplayer. It'd good for racing / flying / trucking sims and the like as well-- it'd increase immersion for any first person experience, really. That's about all I see them used for.
Aside from that one use, dual monitors are cheaper for most tasks and if you want to watch movies or TV, either use a bigscreen TV or do what I did: luck out and get a hold of projector for free out of a dumpster. I think it got up to 12' display without losing clarity.

The DLP's did have great picture if you could keep a damn bulb in them or if they didn't fry themselves.

Got them for $200 bucks for the both of them, new in box.

$1300 for a monitor simply ain't worth it unless you got money to burn. because you can build a solid ENTIRE computer for less than that price. I currently have a ASUS VW246H 24" 1080p monitor, which I had since Feb 2010, as it's solid and then for movies I just simply connect a 15-20' HDMI cable from my PC's GPU to the TV (I got a LG 43" 1080p TV(mfg date is Jan 2016 but I had it since May 2016)) and then you can simply load up a movie and then drag it over to the TV side and run full screen etc.
I won't be getting rid of my 24" monitor anytime soon as ill likely keep on using it til it dies (next month it will be 9 years old ; but it still works perfectly) simply because I won't get enough of a size upgrade, or general update, to justify spending $100+ on another monitor right now. but since it's a 1080p monitor that seems to be pretty standard which further helps so I won't need to upgrade.
bartlesby Hell, are you saying your still on older monitor tech (like those old heavy CRT monitors) here in 2019? because if so UPGRADE NOW as for around $100 you can get a rather big boost to your overall PC experience just by changing from the old style 18-19" monitors to a 24" or so range 1080p modern one for rather cheap. because I went from that old 18-19" old CRT heavy monitor crap to my current 24" 1080p in Feb 2010 (I paid $229.99 ; now you can get roughly that for around $100) and it was a rather large upgrade as you got more desktop space etc (due to increase in resolution to 1920x1080 vs 1280x1024(I think that was it if I recall correctly) that was about the MAX I used on those old 18-19" CRT monitors. basically you will have noticeably more desktop space to the left and right.) and it's easier on the eyes to. because while 5-6" don't sound like much, it's a rather large difference overall. nowadays... just about everyone should be around a 24" 1080p monitor at the minimum for their desktops as any less is simply quite outdated.
but lets just say your on a half way decent 18" LCD type of monitor, so it's nothing TOO ancient, I would still upgrade that ASAP because I would imagine the size increase and especially the resolution boost will be worth it (gives you more desktop space) and $100-ish ain't much for a decent monitor. like what you get to what you pay here is a solid upgrade.
side note: I have my monitors general brightness etc set to 50% as I suspect that may help extend it's overall life span since your not running the fluorescent light at full brightness. plus, at full brightness it's a bit too bright anyways. so it's pretty much a win/win for me. I even have my TV's brightness about 50% to.
You posted...
That sounds about right. but as a general guideline... unless someone is some pro level gamer, or thereabouts, it's probably not going to matter much to the typical gamer as having 60fps I would have to assume is easily more important than having a high refresh rate monitor.
because as a general rule with games...
-30fps = playable (can still have a enjoyable enough experience, especially on single player games, at around this frame rate. but... I think one can push a bit below 30fps before it's no longer playable as I figure even around 25fps it's playable but once you start pushing around 20fps or less it really starts to suck especially if your floating in that area for any length of time. but as a general rule... your probably want to not drop lower than around 30fps as if you can generally stay around 30fps (with maybe an occasional dip a fair amount lower) you can have a decent gaming experience.)
-60fps+ = perfect (once you hit 60fps+ everything is liquid smooth in game as you can visibly see the difference in game going from 30fps to 60fps when moving the camera around in a shooter etc as everything not only looks visibly smoother but feels smoother to. but as the frame rates climb from around 30's to 40's etc you can see/feel things start to smooth out)
a monitor with 60Hz is easily good enough for most people. it's what my monitor has which I had since Feb 2010.
NOTE: fps = frames per second.

mslo79To clarify, they're LCDs, not CRTs. And I usually run outdated peripherals unless I'm required to upgrade for the sake of functionality. I'm not too concerned with the trappings. I'm rather ascetic in that respect.

bartlesby I thought so. still, even while the upgrade won't be as profound, that's still a decent size increase along with additional desktop space is worth a $100 or so. but I guess someones cash situation etc could play a factor to. I see what you mean as I usually avoid the higher end stuff due to $ as I usually go for bang-for-the-buck in general. like finding that sweet spot of performance but reasonable cost and the like.
