The Marvel Cinematic Universe With their masterful approach to tone, theme and character, Marvel have managed to create a universe that has kept adults and children alike on the edge of their seats for a decade and it still feels as fresh and exciting as it did back in 2008. The people have gravitated towards these characters so much because we see so much of ourselves in them. This is why when we get to a movie like Infinity War, it works so well because everyone feels like they've really earned their place, both in the movie and in the hearts of audiences worldwide. Movies like Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther have done such a fantastic job setting up who these characters are, what their values are and how they see the world that by the time we get to something like Thanos' snap, audiences have built up enough empathy for these characters, that it's completely devastating to see them just fade into nothing. This is all just my opinion of course and you're welcome to tell me why I'm an idiot. summers8 charzhino

I mean, they technically are. If you use pretty much any metric, the MCU is the best comic franchise in history. Look at its critical and financial success. It is unmatched.

respected and revered
Batman 1989 and 1992
Blade Series 1998 ( the first 2 films)
X-Men series 2000 (best of films)
Sam Raimi Spiderman (2002)
TDK series (2005)
Hard to put mcu since they have far too much negatives than positive. they are not real films since they are all factory made. their movies really harmed the genre and made things worse

Dark Knight?Sam Raimi Spiderman? Those are more trilogies but yeah TDK and Spider-Man 1 are better than any MCU movie.

Even if there are better individual movies outside the MCU, as a series as a whole no superhero series can compare.
Its amazing it's turned out so well especially when you see how much others have struggled.

Of course. You want proof?
Just look at how many fans of other franchise come to this board, every single day, to sacrifice themselves upon the MCU alter, so we may feast on their unworthy souls.
You wouldn’t do that for just any old franchise!

Honestly, if Dark Knight was part of the MCU, I'd consider it one of their weaker entries with Bale being the weakest lead they've had. Still a decent movie, though, even if Joker's plan did rely on a whole heap of noticeable plot contrivances.

As scabab puts it there might be better INDIVIDUAL superhero movies outside of the MCU, but as a WHOLE its really hard to argue that there is a better, more universal, and more diverse multi-franchise series than the MCU that retains fairly consistent levels of quality and appeal. It's hard to say but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that in the long run Nolan's Batman trilogy or the original two X-Men movies won't be as well received as they are today due to their need to "ground" the source material and isolate their characters from a larger universe, though The Dark Knight will still be regarded as a great film despite everything - mostly thanks to The Joker. Raimi's Spider-Man? I can see 2 holding on its reputation for quite some time more but the first one not as much, its really good but has not aged like fine whine to put it nicely.

To be honest I think if you stripped away Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight and softened the content to Logan I don't think they would be held to as high a standard as they already are. I honestly cannot really name a person who watches TDK not for The Joker.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I always felt Spider-Man 2 was a big step down from the first one. I still love both of 'em, though.

Hahaha. I could laugh at all these fanboys every day. Really you guy need more real life hobbies. It's really scary. So...What is the best shared, superhero based cinematic universe that is made up of diversified multi-franchises that range in science fiction to the supernatural and the fantastic? Nolan's Batman trilogy is, well, a trilogy and has no ties to other DC Comics characters, The X-Men movies are isolated to only, well, X-Men characters. Rami's Spider-Man is just Spider-Man, and a trilogy.

I honestly cannot really name a person who watches TDK not for The Joker. They are what they are, and still after 10 years TDK is still widely considered the best. The Joker is a big part of the story but credit has to be given to Nolan who devised a script to flesh him into life and Heath for giving a memorable performance. But there is plenty more than just the Joker which makes the film more transcendental.

Wrong again.
The most respected and revered superhero franchise of all-time is definitely The Dark Knight. All 3 movies have an IMDb rating of 8.3 or higher and all 3 movies are in the IMDb top 116. Even on RT (which MCU fans love to use as a metric), all 3 movies have an RT rating of 84% or higher.
Name any other superhero franchise that has had such high ratings on EVERY movie.
