Prior to the Spielberg / Lucas phenomenon, a film like logan's run was the pinnacle of big budget SF/fantasy entertainment - along with dim planet of the apes sequels and disaster movies. It's no wonder the new guys rocketed into the blockbuster stratosphere.
Logan's run starts out ok, and then bogs down with that dreary encounter with old man Peter Ustinov. I mean, come on..talk about weak entertainment. 4/10

That movie desperately needs a remake although In Time (2011) was pretty close. I remember the film having interesting and relevant themes, and while it had the best special effects at the time, they have aged badly. I did love Peter Ustinov as the Old Man.

I've read the "Logan's Run" book and it is so much better than the film. The sequel book "Logan's World" is excellent too. The third book in the trilogy "Logan's Search" is enjoyable but a letdown.
One author/critic (IIRC it was Jeff Rovin) wrote that the film adaptation "should have been called 'Logan's Ruin', because that's exactly what it does to the excellent novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson."

I liked it. But it’s a great example of how special effects really drag the movie down, particularly when it is noted that it won Best Visual Effects. The miniatures looked cheap by the date of its release. I cringed each time they did an overhead shot of the cityscape.

I like Logan's Run now more than I did as a kid. It has that 70s pre CGI charm and my god, I can't take my eyes off Jenny Agutter. What a timeless beauty.

Would have been pretty cool too (Refn directing a sci film....wowsers ! )

Rewatching for the first time in a long time and I love the city models in the beginning. The attention to detail of a real thing, the little trains running through tubes, awesome stuff. Yeah it looks like a model but at least it doesn't look like computer graphics and it was built by artists, not some dude staring at a monitor.
The first 50 minutes roll by, succinct, exciting, well paced. It starts to bog down in the middle and has some bad visual effects, a cheesy robot man, but once they escape it picks up. Love the scenes with the old man and his cats, the inevitable face off with his best friend, their parting line about renewal.

I always loved how Ustinov recites from TS Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

Plankton! Sea greens! And protein from the sea!
The opening model shot of the city was cool but badly photographed. I give it credit for introducing a machine-skull futuristic face a year before Star Wars--the carousel masks look like a hi tech skull face (I think they were hockey masks).

It’s one of those classic 1970s PG-rated movies with tits in it.
I laughed through the whole thing, I thought it was hilarious. Watched it with the whole family and it turned into an MST3K episode, but I’d like to watch it again with a little more focus.

I like Logan's Run and I'm not even a sci-fi fan. It had an intriguing premise. Plus Jenny Agutter was total eye candy.

The lighting for many of the interior shots and models remind me of a late 1970's made for TV movie but I love it anyways. Fun fact: Some of the film was shot at the Hyatt Regency in Houston which was a very futuristic hotel when it was built. This is one of those shots.
