Well thanks. But it doesn't really make sense to me. Why do we say Happy New Year at the start of a year, before we can possibly know whether it will even be a happy one?
Shouldn't "Happy (or Crappy) New Year" be said at the END of the year?
I truly hope so. 2018 was a massive piece of chit.

It’s not guaranteeing that the other person will have a happy new year, but they use that term to brighten them up. |
