I have seen both, so I can now compare.
RT scores on both have settled at Aquaman 64% and BumbleBee at 92% as of this writing.
After having seen both I have to say...
"WHAT?!?!?!?!?" Aquaman was WAAAAAAYYYY fucking better than Bumblebee!!! WAYYYY!!
Bumblebee was a little kids movie about a whiny girl, three measly robots punching each other once in a while, and a not very funny John Cena (whom I usually like!). Bumblebee was a stripped down version of all of Michael Bays Transformer movies. It was like a Transformers movie that didn't have to balls to go for it.
Maybe I'm being too harsh on it since I cant say I hated it. I did like Hailey Steinfeld as an actress and I did like that they slowed down enough to make me give a shit about Bumblebee himself (something no Bay movie ever did). But this movie was for little kids, at best.
Aquaman has high adventure, a great lead, a great cast, amazing FX and settings, and yes- a story. Its about a hero coming to terms with his identity in a grand mythological mold, its about family ties, its about the exploration of new and old worlds.
If this weren't under the trappings of DC it would be seen as a great adventure movie, but it seems that DC is all some people can see.
Is it a perfect movie. No; I'm not saying that. There's a lot of corny parts in it. But there's a lot of corny parts in Bumblebee that got a pass too.
At this point I have to believe that the same dislike of DC that some people show here has infected the critics as well. I would post some of the inane criticisms the critics have posted, but why waste my time? Go read a few for yourselves to see how stupid some of their criticisms are and you'll see what I mean. The critic from the NYTimes said the camera didn't photograph Momoa lustily enough. What the fuck is that? Another guy practically wrote down a list of questions he had about the movie; all of which were answered IN the movie if he had just paid attention! And it goes on!
Anyway... thoughts? Which did you like better, and why?

The rating seems absurd, but is explainable. Bumblebee is a nice film for kids with social messaging, Aquaman is a bone fide action adventure blockbuster without any messaging.
To be fair, the films are very different, like comparing ET to Raiders of the lost Arc. Even the RT audience ratings are not that conclusive as too different in review numbers (3.5 vs 21k).
Bumblebee IMO is the best and the only watchable Transformers film. It's still only an average film as it does nothing new but ripping off ET (Short Circuit) plot beats and other 80s stuff, and inserting countless pop songs as soundtrack. It's pretty forgettable except for being different from Bay transformers. The high critics rating is bc they replaced the horny nerd-boy with a pretty, capable girl who has a "romantic" entanglement with an adoring black nerd kid and most of Bay's mecha-clobber porn is replaced by sentimentality, friendship/family and teen angst. The film shows values critics like.
Aquaman has no political boosters, it is an old fashioned dumb-fun film. Lot of critics even bashed it as being regressive and old fashioned (ie not enough pollution message or inclusion aspects).
The only thing that can be said objectively is that Aquaqman internationally beat all the other films (Poppins, BB, Spiderman) by a wide margin in terms of viewer numbers so far to the extent that it seems that the latter arguably underperformed. But that is not a sign of quality, and it's December and Poppins might have better legs in the long run.

I've been saying for a long time that critics are biased against DCEU and now the RT ratings for Aquaman confirm it.

I’ve seen Aquaman (64%) and Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse (97%)
Spider-Man is, by far, the better movie. Like, light years.
During my research for another thread, I noticed it has already appeared in a few top ten lists. So in that regard, Rotten Tomatoes is spot on.
This anti-DCEU bias you all are complaining about is kinda pathetic. Really. I mean, if there ever was a franchise that deserved a negative bias, it’s Transformers, but Bumblebee managed to transcend all that. Aquaman was a step in the right direction for the DCEU, IMO. Just don’t backslide and crap out another Justice League, or Suicide Squad, or BvS, and you’ll be just fine.

I saw both opening weekend. I liked both, but it's like comparing apples and oranges. I mean they are both fruit, but they are pretty far apart. I know the yay or nay % is drastically different Aquaman 64% to Bumblebee 93%. The ratings for the two is Aquaman 6/10 to Bumblebee 7/10. I would put Aquaman at 6.5 or 7/10. I would put Bumblebee at 6.5/10.
Bumblebee is really a small movie in scope. The movie has some consequences for the world, but the plot is about one teenager and an alien.
Aquaman's scope is a lot bigger, with bigger visuals, and the consequences for Atlantians and Surface Dwellers are more in your face.
Bumblebee was a safer movie. Aquaman was a bigger swing for the fence. Usually bigger swings for the fence is more divisive.
I enjoyed both movies for different reasons.
I got to say I had more of an emotional connection to the characters of Bumblebee. Also the connections between the characters are better in Bumblebee. Honestly I wasn't looking for that in either. I was pleasantly surprised finding that in Bumblebee there hasn't been heart in the Transformer Movies. There was in Bumblebee. Aquaman was more of a just rock'em sock'em action movie.
Edit: Both have 2 pretty bad actors. Amber Heard and John Cena, but fuck Amber would take me out of scenes. Where as John Cena kinda reminded me of the over the top military characters of the 80's. The leads though, Hailee Steinfeld is 10x better than Jason Mamoa. Though Jason's charisma carried him well.

Saw both over the last week...I think I enjoyed Bumblebee slightly more. Both are the highlights from two disappointing franchises

I didn't catch Bumblebee but wish I had after hearing about it from others. It is such a pleasant surprise. Hailee Steinfeld is excellent, great soundtrack, very little Optimus Prime (I hate that prick) and the FX look more impressive/less busy than the other Transformers films. It's an un-original story sure, but it's made well.

I saw both, and I could objectively say that Bumblebee was the better movie. However, if you asked me which I preferred to rewatch, I'd pick Aquaman in a heartbeat. Bumblebee is one of those movies that does almost everything right, doesn't make too many mistakes, ticks of all the checkboxes, leaves you thinking that you watched a great movie... yet somehow you'll completely forget about it in a year.
There were stuff I didn't like in Aquaman, heck there was lots of stuff I could criticize about it, it was definitely more chaotic and had less heart than Bumblebee.... yet at the end of the day it was such a wild ride that it left a bigger impression with me than Bumblebee.

I think you mean "paying homage", it was a send up of 80's family entertainments in particular those produced by Amblin Entertainment which was founded by the film's executive producer Steven Spielberg.
