Twenty years ago I'd suggest Barry Sonnenfeld before he lost his mind. Today, I'd suggest either J.J. Abrams or Doug Liman. Or if they want to stick it to Disney, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. On second thought, since given these massive summer tentpole movies to untested critical darlings is the norm these days, I would suggest Jordan Peele?

Or another Fast&Furious director, Justin Lin! He's already handled science fiction now with Star Trek Beyond.

The best qualified director in view of the project and script. I never liked the GL IP, did not even make it through Act 1 of the film. We need someone to show why this is awesome IP along the other DC titans.
I'd always name my man Matt Reeves, but as his glorious Apes films show he is rather a deeper, darker, pensive drama guy who'd do something along Snyder. And that is not en vogue with CBM audience, especially if you want to reach the masses.
Brat Bird comes to mind, he has class but still can handle crowd pleasers.
James Wan deserves a breather. But Justin Lin deserves a chance, though one would have to exercise all the trash elements in his style. His Star Trek flopped hard, but was decent, trashy use of rap music nearly ruined this film.

It's laughable that you'd even remotely compare a piece of art like Reeve's Ape with the likes of Snyder.

I think Christopher McQuarrie would be great. He wrote the script to one of my favorites sci-fi film, Edge of Tomorrow. And from the Mission Impossible films, he can do practical really well. Green Lantern would obviously require CGI, so I think he could really bring a good blend of both practical and CGI for some of the big action set pieces.

Perhaps another collaboration between McQuarrie and Doug Liman?

Peter Jackson or Neill Blomkamp
James Cameron wouldn't be a bad choice, but he sold his soul to Avatar.
George Lucas, because the internet reaction would be priceless.

Apparently Avatar 2 is supposed to explore the underwater world of Pandora, so I'm really curious how he will handle that and how it will compare to Aquaman.

Before Suicide Squad, I would have said David Ayer. Training Day in space with GL and Sinestro. Now, especially after Bright, probably not a good idea.
Then again, I kind of hate Green Lantern. I've tried reading his comics and the whole concept is just so stupid to me. So a Lord/Miller self-parody version could be fun.
