YOUTOPIA is about a camgirl named MATILDE who wants to auction off her virginity (to prevent her and her family from getting evicted), so of course she's shown naked at times, but why is it that the very first time we see her on screen she's stripping and dancing? And why does it take almost a minute for her head to enter the frame (as if only her body mattered)? And why is the last shot of the movie her (covered) chest, which is shown throughout the end credits? Just because a character is objectifying herself for other characters, it doesn't mean that the actress has to be objectified for the viewer. The scene transitions are often too abrupt, but the performances are very good and, for a European movie, the camera work is impressive and the fictional video game is well-animated. The climax only focuses on 4 characters and the end is meant to be ambiguous, but it comes off as giving up due to a lack of ideas. There were other characters who appeared throughout the movie, but they don't seem to matter by that point, even though there's no closure with their subplots. There were also a couple of characters who appeared in only 1 or 2 scenes but, despite hints of them coming back, there's no pay off with them. 7/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
