Probably Derek Jeter. Heโs generally beloved as a player, played his entire career for one team, won several World Series, will be in the hall of fame, and banged just about every hot chick there ever was.

Tim Lincecum
Accomplished tons in a short period of time, was absolutely beloved by fans and teammates, but just flaky enough to never having to be saddled with having to be the "leader" of the team.
Have a blast of ten years or so, get out before you become a burden or embarrassment, make a ton of cash, then retire and do nothing but smoke pot for the rest of your life.
Sounds good to me.....

Never before have I ever felt for an opposing player coming to Philly and take abuse like I felt for Lincecum when the Giants and Phils met in the Playoffs circa 2008-2011. Going back to dugout - Lincy was riddled with abuse and signs by the fans and got ragged on beyond belief - really low blow stuff - like ridiculing his teeth and personal appearance. I always thought Lincy looked exactly like the kid from Dazed and Confused (great stoner movie)

Yep, I remember that, they were real nasty with Lincecum, but I don't think it bothered Timmy too much. Plus, Giants had the last laugh in 2010. One of my all-time favorite postseason series, no one expected Giants to even compete with the Phillies, then Cody Ross goes major yard off of Roy Halladay, shock of shocks.

Yeah - that was tough to watch even if you're a die hard fan of your home team. Many predicted the Phils would become the Yankees of the NL as they were set up for success for years with Howard, Utley, Hamels, Rollins, Ruiz - then fill in players like Werth, Victorino, Halladay and Lee over the years. To an extent they were very successful - will never forget Hamels at the 2008 WS Parade stating, 'We're going to do it over and over and over again'. Everyone expected it. Up 1-0 on the Yanks in the 2009 WS. We thought we had a dynasty here. The Giants and Cardinals turned out to be the death of us in the playoffs. Many will argue they held onto 'old stars' way too long and gave out ridiculous contracts and Ruben Amaro took a lot of heat for this. I say nonsense. They kept the core together and they were all still in their young - blossoming on entering mid 30s. People hate on teams because of free agency and upper management is unwilling to dish out coin and keep the 'core' together. The Phils did this. People hate on the Howard contract. If memory serves - Pujols and Fielder - 2 first baseman were up for contracts that year too. The Phils wanted to strike early and hold onto one of their home grow - and if you look at Howards stats for a 5 year span they were off the charts. The problem was - and I've never seen this with any team in any sport - they all fell off the Universe collectively at one time - Howard, Utley, Rollins, Halladay........ Fun times though - always hoped they'd meet your BoSox in the WS.

Though he was a relatively humble man, and his time in the spotlight brief, in a sport not followed by many, it just HAD to be pretty cool for a black man of that era, to be able to march into the heart of the beast (Berlin, 1936), and SPIT directly in the 'eye' of Adolph Hitler's Evil Empire, by kicking the collective ASSES of the best the "Master Race" had to offer, in front of all those Nazi sycophants..... Jesse Owens (1913-1980) SAVE FERRIS

Joe D is generally considered to have been an a-hole though, and didnโt he have to fight in WWII? Iโll take Jeterโs quantity over one Marilyn Monroe.

Moonlight Graham, before W.P. Kinsella put him on the radar.

Joe was booed by Yankee fans until he streak in 1941. He held out one season. And he wasn't Lou Gehrig. Mantle got the same treatment because he wasn't DiMaggio. DiMaggio supposedly beat the living shit out of his first wife. He would have thumped Norma Jean but he didn't dare to. And he played ball in WWII. Might as well have stayed with the Yankees. He was a surly shit too. But he made a mean cup of coffee.
Best Marilyn-Joe story. When Monroe came back from entertaining troops in Korea. She rhapsodized about her reception and said "Oh Joe, you have never heard such cheering" To which he replied "Oh yes. I have". Duh Marilyn...

I believe some posters are mistaking "career" for "life".
Anyway, I choose Tom Brady.
