I hate these apocalyptic think pieces about comedies. Is comedy changing, or is Sherlock Holmes just played out right now? The RDJ movies, the Cumbers Bumbers Wumbers show, the one with Lucy Lui. Now a comedy with a passed his prime Will Farrell? No thanks.
I've been hearing people say comedy stars like him are dying for a decade. No, 20 years is just a long time to laugh at the same jokes. Thus, new comedy stars rise, like the aforementioned Kevin Hart and various Jasons.
One thing that hasn't changed is that people don't want period piece farces. Worked with Blazing Saddles and Monty Python. Did not work with Year One, Million Ways to Die in the West, this, or anything I can think of in...quite a while. Then to write off the success of Game Night and Blockers. Blockers was a raunchy teen comedy (first one since maybe Superbad) that just focused on teen girls instead of lovable sex offenders. Gane Night was a whacky comedy headlined by a comedy star. Who cares what his supporting cast was? Two traditional comedies, both did well. Being good is not being subversive.

It's like this article really wants people to think the comedy genre is dying out.

I think straight comedies that stand out are few-and-far between in general. but I don't really see the comedy genre dying (at least not with the general public) as it's never been that great to begin with, especially if you stick to straight comedies as finding drama/comedy (and the like) mixtures are a bit easier to find but still not easy to find.
or look at it this way, the most recently released straight comedies that I scored at least a 6-6.5/10 is...
The Heat (2013) The World's End (2013) This is the End (2013)
all three are a 6-6.5/10 although The Heat is pretty close to hitting 6.5-7/10 status for me as I won't be surprised if I shift that up on another re-watch.
p.s. even if I want to broaden things a bit, so I can list about as much as I possibly can, that does not add all that much more than those three for the entire 2010's decade in terms of comedy types of movies... Nebraska(2013)(7.5-8/10)/Carnage(2011)(7/10)/Enough Said(2013)(6-6.5/10)/At Middleton(2013)(7-7.5/10)/Some Kind of Beautiful (2014-2015)(6.5-7/10).
